Scaffold towers - just how useful/flexible are they?

I am seriously thinking about buying a scaffold tower (DIY) To be of any use it will have to be a 7m one (house on a slope, so almost 3 storey on one side). I want one to do things like clear gutters, clear moss off roof, clean solar panels, paint fascias/windows, prune tall hedges/trees...

Replacement Greenstar wireless room thermostat - only...

(Asking for a family member so may be a delay in answering questions) For a Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDI 30, the room thermostat part was dropped and broke ... Online can only see replacements that include the plug in part (receiver?) as well and they are £200 ish. Is it possible just to get...

Walls - Wash then sand or sand then wash?

Ok - Great - I'll give that a go.... Plan is if I can't get a good finish after sanding I will give up and use lining paper...(semi-wish I'd had all the walls skimmed instead of patched after the rewire - but it was a whole house so would would have been a big job/expensive and I didn't know I...

Walls - Wash then sand or sand then wash?

I've seen Gardz mentioned before - so it really works? - (its not cheap if it doesn't) I guess that means I can skip doing another mist coat if I use it and just give them a base coat of white matt emulsion to give them a more even colour/tone and highlight any imperfections...act like a primer...

Walls - Wash then sand or sand then wash?

Paper was stripped off a while ago. Walls were painted before being papered (not by me) - just round to re decorating. The paint is crazing/flaking off - which I believe is down to the paint that had been used reacting with the wallpaper paste left on the walls after stripping.... I know I need...

Veritas Rs Plus/Excel - Keypad and control panel 'dead'

To update ...battery arrived and fitted - no kicks (the wire to the battery terminals are insulated so no need to touch bare wire at all) - guess it helped that I didn't lick it ;-) For anyone else reading this - I set the alarm off replacing the cover of the control box - some kind of tamper...

Veritas Rs Plus/Excel - Keypad and control panel 'dead'

Ok - I'll be careful. Will I not get a kick from them even though they are only 12V ? (memories of touching electric fences connected to car batteries as a child for 'fun')

Veritas Rs Plus/Excel - Keypad and control panel 'dead'

Thanks - that makes a lot of sense! I have ordered a new mains fuse so I have a spare - hope no other fuses have gone. Just one thing - Will I not get electrocuted if I don't turn off the mains? Is there not some current going into the battery to recharge it - through the connectors? Do I need...

Veritas Rs Plus/Excel - Keypad and control panel 'dead'

Obviously that was too long winded a post... I have looked at it again - the mains fuse had blown - does anyone know why that might have happened? Changed it (with the spare one in there) and I have power in RKP/control box. Engineer hadn't reset code - so that's all good. The internal...

Veritas Rs Plus/Excel - Keypad and control panel 'dead'

I had this fitted about 5 years ago in a house that has been empty a lot. I think something alive has triggered it before -full description below* Recently the electricity has been turned off at the mains a couple of times for a couple of hours. Then I had the power off for about 6 hours...it...

Should I buy a Spray painter? If so which one?

Thanks I'm thinking of getting a Wagner one ...one that is £150 ish - in fact almost bought one yesterday. Won't need to worry too much about masking etc as it is a shell and mainly white .. and things like the doors and skirtings will be off and I'll do them whilst off (maybe final coat when...

Should I buy a Spray painter? If so which one?

I have a whole empty house to decorate, some bare plaster and lots of woodwork to paint including interior doors. And some mdf cupboards. Plan on doing white woodwork - have some Dulux mdf primer, Johnstones water based primer/undercoat and satin top coat for woodwork. Ceilings will be white...

Bosch Condenser Dryer "Clean Container" (secret flap door)

Sorry - managed to post that before answering!!! If the machine is only a year old it should still be covered by the guarantee....I would go down that route first. If you start poking around with screwdrivers etc they might use that as excuse to void the guarantee. If they won't cover it I would...

Lay parquet floor on hardboard as tiles/planks?

Definitely not going down making my own tongue and groove path -think it would be easier to scrape the blocks and re-lay :-) Shame it isn't a perfectly square empty room with no obstructions and I could just drop one sheet in and cover the edges with extra wide skirting.... I'll think about it...

Lay parquet floor on hardboard as tiles/planks?

Ahhh I keep typing messages and losing them... The height difference will be ok - as it is the whole floor and I was planning on using 3mm hardboard. If the blocks are firmly glued to the board it will be quite sturdy - the blocks are a cm thick... I was originally thinking smaller 'tiles' (2 by...

Lay parquet floor on hardboard as tiles/planks?

I have had to lift some 5 finger parquet floor to allow underfloor access (Gas pipe and pesky sleeper walls with no access holes...) and I guess I might need to lift it again in the future. To get it up without damaging it we had to start at the edge and lift quite a bit -in the end we just took...

Replacing a bathroom fan....what to get.

I do mainly have LEDs now - as the CFLs die I put in LEDs. But still - it would better if they weren't leaving lights on. If only it was that simple. Eldest has ADHD - I have to pick my battles and lower expectations- getting them to remember to do their coursework or have a battle about...

Replacing a bathroom fan....what to get.

Don't think I can use one of the timer switches in the bathroom as the light is a pull cord one inside and I couldn't easily wire it up anywhere without moving wires - so chasing out or having surface wires... However I'd forgotten they exist (brought back memories of rented flats and bedisits...

Replacing a bathroom fan....what to get.

I agree to an extent - and in this case that is probably true. But the bathroom could do with a complete refurbishment - so in 3 years might be looking for a new one anyway. And in general... sadly I don't think buying quality to last is always a good idea these days with technology etc moving...
