nice, only observation i would make is that i would hav run the boards at 90 degrees to teh way you have them to get the grip of the boards as you come in and out of the door, but only a minor point. yes intresting plumbing! :D

no the diagonal brace in that picture is correct. the side with hinges on is held by the hinges. the opposing corner has the weight pulling it down and the diagonal brace running to that corner gives it support

you dont slot them in from above. very difficult and dangerous. you get one end about 2-3 feet above the ground level and then shoe horn the other end in and then drop it from there.

work shift patterns including nights and then review your idea and see how good it is

if its being decked over, will it not suffice to cut it down to ground level? if not get someone in with a stump grinder. it wont cost much and will be done in no time

based on the fact a surveyours had a look at it and its a 1919 house i wouldnt worry either. funny things houses, they do tend to move a bit after nearly 100 years. if it was subsidence youd know it.
