    Helpless and hopeless...

I'm genuinely not trying to wind anyone up, I'm sorry if it appears that way. I'm hoping to get some insight into why I seem completely unable to get results in this area. If anyone can provide that insight it's surely tradespeople themselves. It would be great to get some suggestions about the...

    Helpless and hopeless...

I'm very sorry if this seems like an inappropriate post. It *is* a bit of a rant, but I'm at my wits' end. My partner and I own a 100-year old terraced house in East London. For nearly ten years, we have been trying to get various problems with our house sorted out. We have engaged numerous...

What is the right tool for cutting plasterboard?

Sorry, I'm being an idiot :( There is some plasterboard, but the bit I need to cut isn't plasterboard at all, it's some sort of soft render I think. That's what the pink colour is. Apologies for the confusion

What is the right tool for cutting plasterboard?

The problem is that the plasterboard is already attached to the wall ... I don't know if you can see from the images, it's the pink sheet underneath the steel beam in the middle picture. Gareth

What is going on with this wall?

Cheers for that Tony, that's really helpful. Undoubtedly I've been stressing over nothing. Shows how much I know! Gareth

What is the right tool for cutting plasterboard?

Hello all I need to trim the edge off a sheet of plasterboard which has cement caked onto the back of it, so that it forms a right angle with an adjoining wall - hopefully the pictures show what I mean. I've been thinking that an angle grinder might be the best tool to do this, but I'm not...

    Anyone?

What is going on with this wall?

That's a relief! So it's still structurally OK even if it seems crumbly?

What is going on with this wall?

What I meant was that there are a lot of bricks on top of the blocks! I don't think there are any structural difficulties, we have had several surveyors look at the house over the years and none of them have ever mentioned anything. It's a tiny room, and that wall had about 2cm of gunk...

What is going on with this wall?

thanks loads for all the help with this. sorry, I should have mentioned that the bathroom is on the ground floor. so if the blocks are original and have softened, are they still up to the job of supporting all the brickwork above them? do we need to take special care in re-rendering? gareth

What is going on with this wall?

Thanks for the reply. We did wonder about that, but it doesn't seem to make sense because the brick wall would originally have been an outside wall, before the house was extended (the bathroom is an extension). Cheers Gareth

What is going on with this wall?

Hello all I recently removed several layers of old render and plaster from a wall in my bathroom, only to find this: Basically the brick upper part of the wall seems to be supported by some large blocks which are dark grey in colour and *very* soft. The mortar inbetween them is also...
