    swivel spout removal

    I'll try that thanks.

    Tap re-seating tool sizes

The tap washers are marked 3/8 so I presumed a 3/8 re-seater would suit. I got a tool that had 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 cutters and its the 3/4 size that fits. Rather confusing to have both bsp and imperial on the same job. Anyway, I used the re-seater tool yet still got a slight drip for a while even...

    swivel spout removal

I watched several videos on YT about the subject and they show mixers with a grub screw at the back that unscrews allowing the spout to be pulled out of the base. The bother is, this mixer tap's swivel spout is not, it seems, retained with a grub. Its about 4 decades old and has lasted well...

    Washing machine NTC sensor resistance

Update! I retested all the wires to/from the ntc and heater element and all are good. I've replaced the triac and tested the relays and all are good. I fitted a replacement water level sensor, the seller advising which contacts should be open/closed for both pressure/non-pressure positions and...

    Washing machine NTC sensor resistance

Have removed and check the two relays nearest the heater wire terminals and both are good. Seems its a chip fault on the pcb that's stopping the heater from working.

    pedestal sink seat

I've bought a full pedestal sink and I'm curious about the pedestal top being considerably narrower basin's pedestal lip. Photos attached. I do have the right end of the pedestal standing on the basin. Is this acceptable for a basin/pedestal joint?

    Washing machine NTC sensor resistance

Just to update, I sourced and fitted a new triac yet still no warm water after 10 minutes run on a 60° wash cycle. There appears to be four relays on the board but no idea each how pin on the relays connects and it would mean removing them to test. I suppose an easy option is to pour some hot...

    Triac testing

My own definitive test! 12v battery and brake light bulb. Battery + terminal to bulb base, bulb collar to MT1, MT2 to back to battery - terminal. I bridged MT2 and Gate with tweezers, the bulb lit and stayed lit with tweezers removed. A satisfactory test?

    Triac testing

This has me intrigued. According to this webpage, using a multimeter, MT1 and MT2 should remain connected after the connection to Gate is removed. With the test I've done, removing the link between MT2 and Gate causes MT1 and MT2 to open circuit from each other.

    Triac testing

The triac sits in the pcb control board of a Bosch Classicx 1400 washing machine. The image I've attached is merely to show the terminals, the part no for mine is BTB16 600CW. I've watched a number of videos on YT about testing them but its confusing. With the multimeter set to Ω, there...

Emulsion can be peeled off walls

I've found a local decorating supplier who stocks a Peelaway 1 and 7 sample kit so will invest and see which performs best on the staircase woodwork.

Emulsion can be peeled off walls

What I've done is rub the entire wall with 60 grit paper then wash it with sugar soap solution. I applied a mist coat of 3 to 1 emulsion/water then two coats of emulsion. When done, the emulsion started to peel off where I used masking tape but I used a wide scraper as an edge to keep the paint...

    Vent fan ducting

I have a bathroom and an en-suite. Can I install inline vent fans and vent the air through one roof mounted vent if I install one way flap valves in the ducting? Also, since I need a condensation trap for the vertical run up to the roof vent, does it comply with building regs if I run the...

Emulsion can be peeled off walls

Having removed the rad and its brackets, there's bare plaster where the brackets were, magnolia emulsion behind the rad from when the house was built around 2003/04 and the rest of the wall is white emulsion from a few years back.
