    Barraby Bucknell 1960s TV.

A mate bought a house and had a housewarming. One of our friends realised that they had known the son of the previous (maybe previous previous) owners. The whole house had been Bucknalled. The staircase, fireplaces, all the doors were hard boarded. The house was 1850’s and eventually my mate...

    Small Fence in Front Garden

Do you live in a side street or a busier road? Some houses near me that have higher walls also have their driveways pulled back from the road. By that I mean that the owner’s frontage curves to provide better sight lines. Effectively recessed gates. But you might need planning - it’s worth asking

    Small Fence in Front Garden

In that case, high railings might help? A few houses near me have walls and railings. The trick would be to get the “lift” of rubbish too high to bother. It was a long time ago, but my family home was built in the original kitchen garden of a Victorian house and so our front and back walls were...

    Rockwool slabs for 4x2 CLS

In an ideal world, you don’t want the rockwool touching the plasterboard. Also, ideally, double skin the plasterboard with staggered joints. Use filler when the first layer is done, so you have two distinct layers

    Small Fence in Front Garden

I tend to agree that any “preventative “ will simply provide a more convenient place to dump stuff. However the idea of trellis is good. You could use posts screwed to the rear of the wall to support trellis - be aware that vandals could use it as a lever (but unlikely) A local fence supplier...

    Base for garden room

There are companies that do really big ground screws and the installation. The screws for a garden type building are about a metre long. I saw them on YouTube.

    Draught proofing timber sash windows

A friend lived in a grade 2:house with sash windows. He was pretty handy, having converted it back from three flats to a single home. His windows were draughty. He used a company who used routers to create a rebate in each sash, then filled the rebate with a brush like excluder. It worked...

Car reg after a private plate?

Thanks To be clear I did mean that I wondered if the plate would have influenced any search for crash damage under its original / now plate. I did a check and it picked up the plates changes and indicated that it searches for both. So no (reported) damage in it’s life either on issued or private...

Car reg after a private plate?

Thanks Any idea if the private plate would “hide” any damage repair under that plate?

Car reg after a private plate?

I am looking at a car tomorrow, a dealer (small one) It was a single owner and had been on a private plate, they are refitting a normal plate It has a FSH Obviously I will ask when I see it but one question would be Is it normal that a car owner would hold a new car’s original registration...

Insulate garage door and fill gaps at side

That’s what my concerns were when I did mine. Mine is ok I believe that you can increase the tension by rotating a spring using a rod to rotate something. That’s outside of my experience Be warned that they have a lot of stored energy - I’d be very wary of DIY At least check out some YouTube...

Minium room temperature, is there a limit?

There are minimum temperatures for work/schools. But not for home. As a kid we didn’t have central heating, you just dressed warm. My central heating died 10;years ago and I have not had it fixed year. I just use an oil filled radiator. Now that I have retired, I’ ll get it fix3d.
