    What would YOU do.

I've been staring at the 'zenith of perfection' for a while, and it's just dawned on me that it would actually work like that  Pffft, and there was me impressed with my guy using a spirit level on his pipework.

    What would YOU do.

Sounds a beauty! Only bit I can comment on is the thermal store, as we have one. If you want multiple heat sources eg oil and pellet, and want to self-install, unvented isn't that much use. Vented and showers don't mix, so you're left with a store. Water coming in needs to be checked for...

Wood burner and heat store on same level -advice please

I am not a plumber by the way. As said, if you get a power cut, without control or a heat dump you're stuffed, which you know. UK stuff is usually openvented gravity 19th century technology with a pump stuck on somewhere to make it high tech. The europeans do it differently, with belts and 3...

    Heat Banks

Sounds ideal, but that would surely mean two complete heat exchanger systems, one fed by the accumulator, one fed straight off the mains? Only other way would be to restrict flow to the bath/sinks - not really worth the effort in my case, I can see the value of prioritising different taps/users...

    Heat Banks

You're right - I originally thought top stat would be set higher, but it makes sense as BB said to have the top one set low, then charge the store until the lower stat is satisfied - so yes I do now have a relay to hold the boiler on until both stats are happy. It took ages to suss the relay...

    Heat Banks

Problem we have is ours is a 70's property with only 15mm incoming townswater, so accumulator was essential if we were to use mains pressure and flow to shower with. Blue plastic mains pipe upgrade not really an option. Stopcock is 15mm, through the water meter which must slow stuff down a...

    To copper or to plastic

We have had mice staying with us, so copper here. But I'd be interested to know if anyone has ever actually found 'those pesky meece' holes in plastic pipes.

S53 Code on Vaillant ECOTec plus 428- 28KW Boiler

We have a Vaillant, and our install/service manual (note ours is a different model!) shows S53 as "delay mode due to lack of water in system (-20 mins)". Yours might be different - google for vaillant manuals, or vaillant website may have download area if you don't have a manual. Vaillant have...

    Bath build quality

I've fitted two baths :) Second time, used loads of timber, vertical supports one-third-span behind the bath panel and at the ends, full support all around the other bath edges, 4x2 if you can get it in. Rock solid (famous last words). I did help a friend with a kitchen a few years ago, and...

    Heating engineer required, South Manchester

I'd recommend the guy we have found, first time I've said that about anyone, ever. We're about ten miles from you. I have a 'spare' mailing address which I can delete if it gets spammed. :)

    Heat Banks

I now have pics - more to prove I do exist than anything else. Clicky here I hope ---> http://www.diynot.com/network/gordonspants/albums/ Note these are during installation, so some of the wiring is a bit untidy and un-conduit'd, and everything is now insulated with armaflex, sticky foil...

    Heat Banks

First off, I'm me, no-one else. I can think of better things to do with my life than create various alter-egos then pretend to talk to each other on the computer. Don’t think I even had an imaginary friend when I was little. Right.. as listed 1. The CH zones can have TRVs all around using...

    Heat Banks

So, it works. Finally. We have a 300 litre sealed system store (with solar and woodburning coils, both as yet unused). Been running a few months so far. Would I recommend a thermal store? Yes, particularly if you want multiple energy inputs ie solar, gas, whatever. A bigger question would...

    Which of these 3

I'm not a plumber! BUT we have just had a Vaillant fitted (last boiler was a Baxi) - looking at it with the cover off with the heating engineer he was explaining stuff - the case is insulated so it's seriously quiet, the pump is a rebadged grundfos so it's reliable, all the bits you'd need to...
