But where's he gonna find this female spark?

change single pendant to halogen down lights.

Huh? Wouldn't that only be ELV ones, being a 'special installation'? If they're 230V downlights then you're under 2.(c)(ii) - adding light fittings and switches to an existing circuit, aren't you?? Liam

change single pendant to halogen down lights.

No, the most simple way is to daisy chain from one light to another and... stop there. Liam

    Assist a British Gas 'engineer'?

Well turns out it was the PCB afterall. The reason the new PCB still didn't work was because the BG guy hadn't pressed the reset button after fitting it! Apparently he phoned Wickes and they suggested he do this :D All working now. Cheers for the help. Liam

    Downlighting

Oh dear - I happen to enjoy a McDonalds every now and again, and have never been offended by a satellite dish either! I guess that makes me ignorant and lacking in good taste, then? If taste wasn't entirely subjective, and if your particular tastes were some kind of gold standard by...

    Assist a British Gas 'engineer'?

Cheers, Maybe it wasn't clear enough in my post (now edited) - pump declared kaput and replaced along with circuit board and still not working. One would assume he'd correctly bleed/refil etc etc?... Will try and post model number tonight. It's a halstead 24kW combi not more than a few...

    Assist a British Gas 'engineer'?

Hi there, A little background first - a friend of mine moved into a house about a year ago into which the previous owners had had installed a combi boiler not too long before the sale. A Wickes jobby made by halstead - so probably a cheap pile of poo. I'd noticed at the time the pressure...

45 amp dp switch with neon light for cooker

Lighten up mate. It was probably your confident claim that 'its wired correctly' that provoked the gentle mocking :). And that's all it was - don't get too upset! If you can't handle that and laugh at yourself, maybe this forum isn't the place or you. Or any other internet forum, for that...

Are we keeping a list of LABCs who don't understand Part P?

So have they agreed they'll accept your EIC or will you have to get it tested by a registered spark? Out of interest who are you corresponding with at Bedford LABC? Liam

Told British Gas don't Fit isolators

I must be lucky then. My supplier N-power came and fit a new meter, upgraded my tails to 25mm and fitted an isolator. All totally free of charge :). Dunno if they still have that policy and if it applies to all regions, but worth checking. Then tell your existing supplier they'll lose your...

Are we keeping a list of LABCs who don't understand Part P?

For your information, the paragraphs you've referenced are not 'part of the building regulations' or 'the legislation'. Bedford BC will kindly point this out to you as they refuse to foot the bill for any testing (though they will send someone round to inspect who doesn't appear to know or care...

Light pendant Live when switched off

No current flow is necessary for capacitive coupling which is a consequence of the voltage-generated electric field. You're thinking along the lines of inductive coupling which is caused by the magnetic field of a flowing current - a different kettle of fish. EDIT: Beaten to it

Zone 1 swivel bathroom downlighter - Such a thing ???

To play you at your own game, all Part C says, essentially, is that a floor/ceiling shall offer 'adequate' protection against the effects of moisture. Where does it say a ceiling must be air tight? Surely a light fitting cannot be specifically advertised as being 'Part C compliant' if it...

    Which consumer unit to buy?

Flippin eck - this is painful  And must be some kind of record, too - I don't think I've ever seen the BAS-assault go on after the job is done and dusted before! :) And done by a fully registered spark with all neccesary paperwork in order. A BAS-Goldberg tag-team effort too - wow...

    Which consumer unit to buy?

Hi there, I'm no pro, but some advice for what it's worth... Don't buy the cheapest tat you can find. From what I've seen there are many 'brands' that look like that one you linked to at Toolstation - exactly like it. That's cos it's generic, anonymous chinese tat with the latest...

    Hourly rate for Sparks?

I don't see anyone moaning about overheads - just pointing out that they exist to clueless idiots like Gees who calculate price-of-job divided by duration and come to the conclusion sparkies and other self employed tradesmen are on footballer's wages

    Recessed Downlights/Spotlights Spacing Advice

Downlights in a garage!? Now I've seen it all. Urrgghhh. Best advice I can give is to get some lightweight mini step ladders. Have one on each floor of the house easily accessible. You'll find it very convenient for the frequent lightbulb changing you'll be engaged in :). Liam

Adding an RCD to a consumer unit

Might be a good idea to consider what's already on the existing RCD before sticking an additional 40A MCB on it. Liam
