DIY-kitchens - side panel height different size to cabinets, is it normal?

Just taller, allowing for pelmets. Incidentally alot of modern kitchens dont have a cornice or pelmet, ive just fitted this, its by Stori kitchens and yes the wall end panel was supplied 960 high for a 720 unit without cornice or pelmet. Had this kitchen been supplied by Hacker "German" then...

DIY-kitchens - side panel height different size to cabinets, is it normal?

Most kitchen doors are 5mm smaller in height than the cabinet. If you used one as an end panel it would be 2.5mm short top and bottom, which would look odd.

I generally plunge the excess off, then use a power planer to back the panel about 30 degrees and gradually work back to the scribe line, finish with a bit of 120 grit to slightly remove the arris before fitting. Horses for Courses.

DIY-kitchens - side panel height different size to cabinets, is it normal?

I think the price gives it away, real SS Handles of a similar ilk are around £15, besides there will be small print somewhere as a get out clause for them. In a minute ive got to fit a 780 wall unit end panel to a 720 unit, it doesn't have cornice or pelmet, im going to cut the top, no paint or...

DIY-kitchens - side panel height different size to cabinets, is it normal?

I use a Plunge Saw, you may not have one, do you own a circular saw? I use a 48 toothed blade. I also cut face down onto and through a sacrificial sheet of mdf, it stops chipping of painted or gloss surfaces.

DIY-kitchens - side panel height different size to cabinets, is it normal?

Unfortunately that would look pants aswell as the doors are shorter than the units. I would cut the wall end panels to wall unit height and put the cut to the top, if DIY Kitchens cant send touch out paint i would get a colour match at Brewers and paint it myself.

    Warped oak

Ive not tried this but could you sash clamp the joint back together then instal hardwood bows at the 45 degree where it has pulled apart. Maybe use Iroko or Maple for the bows, make it a feature, you could also reinforce the joint from underneath.

Door handle retention screws - Why so bad?

The appearance of an upside down hinge in relation to the orientation of the etching on the hinge being upside down doesnt mean the hinge is fitted incorrectly. Hinges are always installed "Most to the post" and depending on which side of the door is being hung the hinge can have the appearance...

    Young idiots on motorbikes

This happened on the Ringlands estate in Newport, young kids buzzing around on motorbikes and e scooters. Whilst they were partaking in drug running they were also becoming a monumental pain in the ar*e with thuggish yob behaviour to the general public. The police used drones to track them back...

Good evening, Im trying to find in Building regs a document relating to toughened glass. Im converting a staircase from softwood to Oak. I'll be using a handrail and baserail that is pre-rebated for either 8mm or 10mm toughened glass. The largest single piece of glass will be 1000mm long x...

    Cash Isa transfer problem

In the end I left the isa in natwest transfered to a new 1yr fixed at 4.2%, just before I topped it up to £15k and can add further until the 6th of Jan 2026. Natwest also have a digital saver account, max depositable limit of £5k for 1 year gets you 5.5%aer, which is better than £5k sitting in...

    Cash Isa transfer problem

I was drawn to the T212 because of 4.53% and being variable i could continue to pay into it. With a fixed, I cant. But I wasn't aware you cant transfer ISA's.to T212. My isa is held with Natwest currently and is variable, I topped it up today, but its doing nothing at 1.14%. Variable would be...

    Sealant tube holder ideas?

I scoured the Internet looking for sealant tube holders and decided I didn't want to spend the money they wanted for them. What you see before you is offcuts of solvent weld pipe "im a hoarder" and a bit of upvc soffit board screwed to mdf. The clips are 2 inch waste pipe and stabiliser things...

The Paramedics are doing a brilliant job.
