Siemens SI 14.44 iQ700 washing machine won't start

Our washing machine has decided to play up today. When I press the start button, the LED above it flashes once, and the machine bleeps twice. It does this on every program. It is not reporting any error message. Wondering if the door switch/lock might have gone faulty? Thoughts appreciated...

    Economy 7 blip?

@SUNRAY Yup - just the 80A contactor feeding a small separate CU with two fuses in it - immersion heater and the one storage heater. The immersion stat fault is all sorted now, but I think I might see about getting the teleswitch replaced with a smart meter anyway, as I gather the teleswitch...

How to get live wire to fan with only access through small downlight holes!?

If you do find yourself having to cut through a nice ceiling, it's not as bad as it sounds if your ceiling is nice and smooth and flat, and preferably painted matt white! This is one of mine where I had to cut a section out to do a C/H pipe repair - or have to rip out half the bathroom above...

    Economy 7 blip?

Come to think of it, you're probably right - I think there is a secondary CU. I'm back there tomorrow to finish sorting the fault out so I'll take the opportunity to document it all.

How to get live wire to fan with only access through small downlight holes!?

Cheaper version than proper cable rods is the lid from some plastic cable trunking. Something like this. https://www.screwfix.com/p/tower-pvc-white-self-adhesive-mini-trunking-16mm-x-16mm-x-2m/60548

    Economy 7 blip?

Er........bit of a smoking gun this time, and obviously not related to the blips we have had in the past. Stat has had a complete melt down internally on one side, and had gone open circuit - which is a bit of a surprise as its a Tesla branded one, and probably only about 2 years old. The...

    Economy 7 blip?

@JohnD The problem is we don't live in the flat (or I'd have just got up early enough to do a quick check with my test meter before the E7 period stopped). It's my elderly mother-in-law living there there. So I was hoping to find some sort of energy usage monitor I could leave on permanently...

    Economy 7 blip?

Well, we've just had two nights in a row where this fault has occurred again. Talk about intermittent! Unfortunately, the storage heater wasn't on again - so we still don't know whether this is the Teleswitch or not + looking at this device in more detail, I see that there is a 25A contactor...

    Painting Aluminium Threshold Bar

Bare aluminium - I use Hammerite Special Metals Primer (you can get it at Halfords etc.). Not cheap but seems to do the job pretty well. Anodised aluminium - as yours might be if it's a gold/brass colour - needs an etch primer to get paint to stick really well without chipping and peeling...

Roof tile slipped on flat - am I over-reacting after seven weeks?

@datarebal Thanks. It's a second floor flat as already mentioned. The roof spans two flats and a wide central corridor so adds significantly to the overall height. The second photo is one I've just grabbed off the net. The offending tile is in line with the apex of the bay, but not sure if...

Roof tile slipped on flat - am I over-reacting after seven weeks?

A roof tile above a second floor flat we own has slipped completely. The management company were advised at the end of April, but still haven't sorted it out, or even given us any timescales - i.e. we're over seven weeks on now. I've escalated it a couple of times but they reckon the contractor...

Siemens dishwasher SN65M030GB/16 upper spray bar

Just a follow up to this now I have the new one, in case anyone else has the same issue. The cream coloured plastic item is intended to move (I assume this might be to do with the fact the top basket has two height positions, or just to give it some wriggle room when it is slammed back into...

Siemens dishwasher SN65M030GB/16 upper spray bar

Thanks - I had another good look at it today and as well as the seals that seem to be in the process of dropping off on the front, there is a ring seal on the back that seems to be disintegrating too - so on balance, I've gone for a new spray arm, as it wasn't as expensive as expected - £24 inc...

Siemens dishwasher SN65M030GB/16 upper spray bar

The cream coloured bit of plastic was found in the bottom of the dishwasher this morning, and comes from the rear of the top spray arm. I can put it back in as shown with the red arrows, and slide the bit of plastic up in the side slots, but it doesn't lock/stay put, and I can't actually see...

    Standby generator questions

With caravans and RVs (I'm not a user of either) it just seemed to me that they tended to be recessed to protect them which would also keep the worst of the weather off too, so that was all I was querying. The power unit you linked to is an interesting bit of kit - but with having the gen and a...

    Standby generator questions

Thanks for the replies. The generator is a suitcase/inverter type and is floating neutral as this type usually are. It is normally used to temporarily run power tools and the like, and these tend to be double insulated anyway. It has an earthing point on it if needed, for connection to say, a...

Who knew?! A legitimate application of mains hum!

Interesting video. I remember making a simple touch switch many years back. The trigger input on the ubiquitous 555 timer chip is so sensitive, the mains hum picked up by your body when you're in a building where there's mains, is enough to trigger it (which could then drive a relay to give a...

    Standby generator questions

I'm deliberating over connecting one into the house supply and had a couple of questions..... 1. I was shocked at how much even a manual transfer switch was. The cheapest option I found was a 125A DIN rail mounted c/o switch, in a small DIN enclosure and that was just under £100, but not a make...

Siemens SI 14.44 iQ700 washing machine reset for an F43 error

I wish it had! :) This is the precise model we have (/20), so maybe later variants did?
