Porcelain Patio - Getting Myself in Knots

The internet is a great and terrible thing!!! I’m planning on doing the patio myself - all the time of the world, not afraid of hard work - but I’m getting myself in knots with the sub bases for the porcelain patio. What I’ve researched is that you need 100mm of MOT; 50mm of a 1:12 lean mix -...

    Floating Bench Garden Wall

Jaysus lads, calm down. I just couldn’t visualise it - that’s all. What would I have to gain by being dense on purpose when you’ve both kindly offered your time and knowledge for my benefit. Thank you both so much - it makes a lot more sense to me now. Thanks again.

    Floating Bench Garden Wall

Sorry all. Not sure how the angle iron would work in this instance. How would it be fitted?

    Floating Bench Garden Wall

Thanks for the reply. I think I understand what you mean. Do you mean flat stock rather than box steel so that it sits flatter?

    Floating Bench Garden Wall

Thank you so much. One final question - how far across the course of blocks would you put the box steel. In other words, if I lay 215mm of the box steel over the full course of brick, does that affect the render on the other side? Hope that makes sense. Thank you.

    Floating Bench Garden Wall

Thank you so much for this. Much appreciated. Can I ask - when you say to put threaded bar through the back of the wall - do you mean on the outside, as in flush against the block? I plan to render the wall - would that affect the render? Another suggestion I read was to sink a rod through...

    Floating Bench Garden Wall

Hi all Appreciate your advice on the following. As part of our garden design, I’m planning to build an ‘L-shaped’ garden wall with an ‘L-shaped’ floating bench attached. I’m thinking of going with a 4’ block on flat wall (3m x 3.7m ‘L-shape’), 900mm tall with the bench somewhere at 450mm...

    Space Under Gravel Board

Not a bad idea. Thank you. Thought about cement board? Expensive? Would slate tiles be too weak?

    Floating Bench Garden Wall

Thanks for that. I’m planning a 900mm wall, and the seating at 450mm. I spotted the strips of steel idea. Any idea how I could confirm the structural integral integrity? Some online calculator.

    Floating Bench Garden Wall

Thank you. is core drilling just messing about do you think? I was hoping I could get a t shaped bracket. One part of the t goes into the mortar, the other supports the bench and the straight piece hard up against the wall itself. I did see what you suggest about steel at the back but mine...

    Space Under Gravel Board

Hi all Unusual query. I’m looking for advice on how to fill up the space between the bottom of the concrete gravel board in my fence and the ground. I have a terrible and irreparable relationship with my neighbour. I installed a new concrete fence (45m) and wooden panel post last year - all...

    Shower Pump Electrics Help

So just to confirm: I currently have a wire from a spur in the 'Hot Press' that attaches its three wires directly under the casing of the old pump. Now that this new pump has a plug, I can simply unscrew the plug and attach directly onto the wire from the spur?

    Shower Pump Electrics Help

Hey all, My current shower pump - which is broken - is wired from a spur (located in the hot press and looks like this http://cpc.farnell.com/productimages/farnell/standard/42268048.jpg) to the pump (i.e. there's not plug - its wired into the casing itself). But my new pump has a plug -...
