    Upright Vax carpet cleaner

Nice one. Seems I have a white stud stuck in the up position under the water container. This has the "squirt" button jammed in the on position all the time. Does anyone know how to repair this?

    Worktop - First Time

Nice job. As a pro, I have never seen the nails in the end technique and I've been fitting these for 25yrs. You never need them if the joint is biscuited or has a loose tongue but I will remember this in case I ever have use for it.

    Upright Vax carpet cleaner

I hope this is the right category for this. We have an upright Vax carpet cleaner which has been brilliant. However, the foam filter sock fell apart and I took it out. I am wondering if this has had anything to do with the machine going wrong. Now in use, water spurts out from underneath the...

    Magic Wire or Bookcase Strip

Always worth having a good look at where your screws are going to occur with tonk strip. You rout your two depth grooves either side of the uprights, then you need to be sure there is still enough meat left to locate the screws and make sure they don't clash with each other. Best of luck.

Smoke in the kitchen when cooking

We have a fan assisted oven which when cooking makes the kitchen smokey. My daughter says her eyes sting. The oven is not self cleaning and I have cleaned it but maybe not very well. I have heard that self cleaning ovens clean themselves by burning off the fat. If this is the case surely they...

    Replacing bathroom floor

Always worth having a look under there to see what wiring and pipes may need to be accessed one day. If you tile over ply that is screwed to the joists, you ain't gettin in there in a hurry. Make sure in an emergency you can access important pipes from below or from behind the bath panel.

Yep, the keys still sound out when you push them. As I say the alarm all works fine I just can't get it to stop flashing.

    Sludge in the system

There is a huge difference in price between brands cleanser and inhibitor. Why does one cost £25 and another £10?

Double glazed unit filling with water

One of our upstairs opening windows, aluminium double glazed, is filling with water. We have nearly two inches in the bottom it started by misting up, now this. I thought about adding goldfish but there is no access to feed them  Seriously though, is it a big deal to take out the glass...

    Sludge in the system

Two comments I have read on here are running through my head. One was that before adding inhibitor to the system its a good idea to add cleanser for a couple of weeks to loosen up the sludge. The other was that new boilers hate dirt. Won't loosening up the dirt and running the system for a...

    Nail through pipe

Been there done that. I very carefully looked under every single nail hole when I replaced the floorboards in my daughter's room. I screwed them back down as I thought I'd be getting them up again. There are loads of pipes under there as the boiler is in the room below. It all went well. Then at...
