    Overflowing feeder tank

Ian is right. Having established it is not being caused by "normal expansion" you ought to get some advice from the experts on the plumbing forum. I have seen a number of old threads which discuss things like the direction the pump is fitted (did the gas touch the punp?), where the pump is...

    Overflowing feeder tank

You can assume the newly fitted ball valve is working properly given you do not have overflow all the time. Check the level of the water in your header tank. It should be a minimum 2 inches below the overflow outlet to allow for expansion. Normally there is some adjustment on the...

    Garage Conversion

Here are some photos. Before After I paid for the front to be bricked up (my brick laying skills are not up to this sort of thing) and the window put in (10 year guarantee if they supply and fit). But I built the roof, all by myself. :D Craigf, this is what has taken me 4 months...

Hi Check out my home project

If no one objects I guess we can just leave all this discussion about my floor on this thread then. Cheers Masona, I think I don't need any more (for now) I am sure I will be back. Craigf, you can sue ME for compo if you like, I spend all day finding ways to avoid paying claims. I...

Hi Check out my home project

I am grateful. I will carefully check the height I need to raise because I think I do have at least an extra 10mm or so and guess I just bed the dpc between two layers of mortar before the wall plate is sat on top. What keeps the wall plate in place/how is it bonded to the mortar...

Hi Check out my home project

Cheers Masona, Thanks for this, I think I have it clear in my mind and agree it sounds easier than having to fix numerous coach screws all the way around the room. Just a few supplementary questions:- 1.DPC – I am still a little bit confused where this actually sits. Are you saying to...

Hi Check out my home project

Craigf, Always good to hear the Building Inspector is happy. I am hoping for some further info from Masona but are you able to give me any info about the fixing, see my post 16.1.04 9.40pm Cheers. Pal

Hi Check out my home project

Thanks again Masona, I know you gave this advice in my project but seeing/hearing someone actually doing by bolting wall plates around the edge and not getting any bounce makes me think this is the way forward. I know you recommend/favour sleeper walls and I can see you point from a...

Hi Check out my home project

Cheers craigf, This was my chosen method of installing the floor but others ideas have been floated around and put doubt in my mind. I'm spanning 8 foot and thought 5x2's at 400mm would give me the strength I need. I say 5's because if I use these around the edge they will be well clear...

    dishwasher fittings!!!

Most dishwashers have just one inlet, a cold mains feed. If so you will only need one. Do many people still use their hot water to fill a washing machine? I have a pretty limited supply so I use one of these connectors to join the hot and cold together and attach it to the main. I know it...

Hi Check out my home project

I'm interested to read how you dealt with the floor, you mention half the joist are in place. I guess you have had to raise the floor up. Are the joist suspended or supported? What size are the timbers, what size/span is the room etc. :?: Thanks. Pal

    Garage Conversion

Craigf, you appear to be getting on like the proverbial. I don't think what I plan it is that demanding, particularly now I have got the roof all but finished, but it is damn time consuming. I know it would only take a week if went at it full time but I'm having to steal literally minutes at...

    Wickes Hi-Tack Flashing Strip

It is under one of the front windows and goes down onto the tiles on the front of the house. The flashing was defective and this looked the easy option, not so sure now! I guess you are going to advise to get a roofer to fit a new bit of lead? Pal

    Wickes Hi-Tack Flashing Strip

I have used some of this down onto some grainy exterior tiles but unfortunately never used a primer as recommended for best result. Needless to say it has not stuck too well.:( I guess there must be something sticky I can apply to bond them together. Any suggestions would be...

    Garage Conversion

Thanks masona, Price is most definately an issue. From a practical point of view, I do favour option two. Once I have coach bolted the two wall plates horizontally I can speedy hanger across, strut if necessary and lay some chip board on top. Sounds easy!!! Am I underestimating the job...

Thats handy, it means breezer can pick up supersparks on the way down to me at Jct 6 to help me finish my garage. Only kidding, that would take away the morbid enjoyment I am having in Doing It Myself. :x Pal
