Remove sliding door from the Extension to the conservatory. Can I?

As an alternative to removing the doors could you replace them with an internal Bifold door system so they're stored out the way but can also be closed when you get fed of haemorrhaging money out the conservatory as heat.

LPA consider my Coach house to be a flat for PDR purposes.

Do you own the freehold to the plot and the two houses who have garages under you have a lease for them? If you're the Leaseholder you're more than likely have bigger issues than planning permission!

Radiator sizing query. They are soo tiny!

Thanks but mostly the rads are either in new positions completely or the floors are up to be able to make the pipework changes out of sight. The house downstairs was mostly done with the pipework on the surface running down the walls which was already unsightly enough as it was! The new...

How big a water tank can I put in loft?

FWIW i'm in the process of doing this with a 250L unvented tank. SE has calculated 2 lots of 3 lengths of c24 8x2 bolted together side by side spanning 5.8m.

Radiator sizing query. They are soo tiny!

Wow thats a great reply thank you. Helps explain the performance charts i'd found much better. Okay so an example of one room just to check i've understood it correct. Our bedroom had a recommended BTU of 1700. Originally I fitted a 600x500 T11 which had a BTU of just over 1700. Woefully...

Fitting strobes within Mains Smoke alarm system

Well as a follow up I thought i'd do an update. Ended up using the Aico 140RC series alarms with 2 relay bases operating a strobe in the main living room and one in our bedroom. The instructions for the Relay base are distinctly lacking and don't really explain how to wire them up properly...

Radiator sizing query. They are soo tiny!

Well after some reshuffling the rads are still fairly 'small' but no longer barely strong enough. Some of the old really small ones are being moved into hallways and replaced with new T22 ones. They still look tiny but on paper they are plenty strong enough to cope. Plus when the Extension...

Radiator sizing query. They are soo tiny!

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like a couple of the smallest ones will be being moved around the house and some larger ones will be being purchased. At least i'm happy with normal ones and not designer expensive ones!!

Radiator sizing query. They are soo tiny!

In the process of a CH overhaul including new Rads throughout the house. My GF's builder of a dad is helping us along and we were told to use one of the many BTU calculators to work out the rad sizes needed and to then get the ones we wanted making sure we get one bigger than the BTU...

    Neatening Electric Cable

If the thing you are plugging in via the extension lead is on the other side of the wall compared to the socket it is plugged into then you can do as chalice said and just get an electrician to fit a socket on the correct side of the wall. In the grand scheme of things a simple solution that...

Fitting strobes within Mains Smoke alarm system

Fitting strobes within Mains Smoke alarm system

SFK, Thank you for your help. I agree its really not an easy thing! you'd think more manufacturers would have Strobes as part of the smoke alarm as standard. Especially when they are mains powered! Our biggest problem is that ontop of my GF being deaf so actually needing the strobe and...

What's The Standard Way of Switching Sockets Separately?

Are you suggesting basically having a socket as the 'light' in what would be wired like a lighting circuit? If you're going to go the effort of running a wire from the switch to the switchless socket why not just fit a DP switch and switch it like the old way just with a longer run from switch...

Fitting strobes within Mains Smoke alarm system

Not sure thats going to work! Need to find out what the voltage on the interconnect wire is so I can find the correct relay type. The one I found up there is a 24v DC pick up which is unlikely to work!

Fitting strobes within Mains Smoke alarm system

Does anyone have any experience of fitting Strobes to a Domestic Smoke alarm system? My GF is profoundly deaf so cannot hear high frequencies like smoke alarms and telephone ringers etc. We need to fit new Mains powered smoke alarms to the house as part of its renovation and I was wondering...

Trailers (well it's 'cars' sort of)

Firstly passing your test after 1997 doesn't restrict you to a 750kg unbaked trailer. Secondly, you're still allowed to pull a braked heavier trailer, but it is the combination of vehicle and trailer that makes it illegal/illegal. I took my B+E test using a Renault Clio and a braked 1ton...

    Accessing Building Control application history.

They were done in the 90's so even if they don't there isn't really anything that can be done. Plus the house is basically being gutted anyway so it's all going to be signed off after i'm done. All the work that needed planning consent had it in place. Basically the house has had an adjoined...
