    Pendant lights in kitchen

Thanks for all those suggestions. Have to say I dont find any of those flourescents particularly attractive  I do like the idea of the 'hidden' type lights, but they always seem to be fitted in conjuction with downlighters so can they really illuminate a space on their own? or are...

    Pendant lights in kitchen

Both :) Having hunted around for ages and finding nothing we like, pendants with glass shades is what we have settled on, provided of course they are allowed. If we dont want 2" downlighters, florescent strips, or a bar with little spotlights what are the alternatives?

    Pendant lights in kitchen

I've looked all over but not found a definitive answer to this. Are normal pendant lights allowed in a kitchen?

    Velux alternatives for glazed roof.

The same way having a neon pink front door, white plastic guttering, or a wheelie bin on the front lawn would :P Thanks for the help guys.

    Velux alternatives for glazed roof.

I would like to block up a rather useless window (a shed 2ft from it) in the wall of a lean-to utility room, and replace with some form of roof light. I dont necessarily require it to be opening and am not keen on the "sticky uppy" look of velux windows.  I did see whilst out...

Building Regs Classification of a Conservatory

Nothing is mentioned about glazing amounts on the planning portal anymore either. I'm sure it used to be there?? http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/commonprojects/conservatories

    A conservatory ... sort of.

Cheers. There are existing air bricks which I will avoid covering. I was under the impression if its a conservatory then BR do not apply, but that the glazing has to be of a certain spec? Basically this floor would also be the base for the conservatory, much like the steel framed bases...

    A conservatory ... sort of.

Just to drag this up again. Will build this as conservatory, within 3m of rear wall so no PP. Neighbours have agreed to attaching to the party wall. What sort of size joists would I need to span 2.5 metre gap wall to wall, to put a raised floor over the this yard, to bring it up to the...

    Building regs for raising lintel.

No outbuildings involved in my case. The kitchen is in part of the single story extension (as I say it is original to the house. Terraced, they all have them) and a door from that leads into a utility room (was a loo, I believe, 50 years ago) housing boiler washing machine, cupboards etc. It's...

    Building regs for raising lintel.

I have a door from the kitchen to a utility room, both original to the house (c1900), through a single skin brick wall. Both rooms are in a single storey extension, with a sloping tiled roof. The rafters rest on this intermediate wall. At sometime in the 60s the floor of the kitchen was raised...

    A conservatory ... sort of.

Its fine on that front. With it only 37% would be covered. I'm pretty sure it will need planning though due to length from rear wall and I'm fine with that. Its just the actual construction I'm pondering.

    A conservatory ... sort of.

It will be 2.5m wide and 3.5 long (from the rear wall of the house), although as I say thats shorter than the extensions the terrace has. Regardless it would appear that 3m is the max without any sort of planning. Cheers on the flashing heads up. I had already thought of that, and have been...

    A conservatory ... sort of.

Hi First post (although I have gleaned loads of useful info from loitering in the background) hopefully in the right place. I live in a terraced house, with a single story extension to the rear original to the house, covering half the width of the house. Neighbours property is the same only...
