Replacing Corner Fence Post (8ft) 4"x4"

No not worried about the cost of the extra concrete but the post stability . someone suggested digging deeper...might just be a better/tidier solution.

Replacing Corner Fence Post (8ft) 4"x4"

less concrete would be used as the diameter of the hole at ground level is around 3ft, go down 12" and the diameter is halved. But i agree i have received good advice but just trying to make the best of a bad situation. i think my solution is o.k as i have just taken ground level down 1ft...

Replacing Corner Fence Post (8ft) 4"x4"

wabbitpoo, if i were to increase the depth of hole by 12" (from 2ft 6 to 3ft 6 and length of post by 12"(to 10ft), would that mean i could leave the concrete 12" below ground level so that less concrete is used and seen, i would still slope away from post but backfill with soil.

Replacing Corner Fence Post (8ft) 4"x4"

i will be using postcrete for the rest of the fencing (posts are 4"x4") , the posts hole will be just over 2ft deep . the instructions on postcrete(Hansons) says to place rubble/broken bricks around the base of post. how much of the hole do i need to fill with rubble so that the concrete sets...

Fence Post next to large tree

are there any potential problems to positioning a fence post right up close to large poplar tree. some of the tree root has been cut back and the post can be quite close to this tree root, but could make hole wider and move post away . i was thinking the tree may move the post over time...

Replacing Corner Fence Post (8ft) 4"x4"

Hi Thermo, i am still thinking about your suggestion to resolve my problem. the top of the hole from corner of the L shape to the other corner at ground level is about 3' (36"!!) and the position of the post is off centre (towards the corner of the 'L'). Would i need to widen the hole to...

Topping up Postcrete to level with more Postcrete

Hi just saw your post http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/posts.htm the above forum advises fence posts to be approx 5" underground anyway, so long as concrete slopes away. So you might be ok.

Replacing Corner Fence Post (8ft) 4"x4"

opinion appears to be divided as to whether the concrete ends above,at or below ground level so probably not that significant (but agreed to slope away from post so no moisture remains)

Replacing Corner Fence Post (8ft) 4"x4"

Hi Thermo. would that be 1 part cement 5 parts aggregate? in terms of the finish could i leave the concrete 2" or 3" below ground level and backfill with soil and slope concrete away from post. what would be best for stability? thanks for your reply :D

Replacing Corner Fence Post (8ft) 4"x4"

Hi Wabbitpoo, apologies but the hole is approx 20"x17" which is much larger than the 12"x12" i want. as the images show i had just started thinking about shuttering before your reply. i do not really want to place post in the middle of the hole as this would affect one of the boundaries which...
