It's 22mm thick wbp ply laminated with a waterproof laminate onto it and around edges.... And since your toilet and cistern are off old school..ie the toilet pan is about 2foot from the back wall then beauty board will be easier to fix...and will be a shelf area....lot less easier and cheaper...

Ceiling and floor just use a couple off tubes off grab adhesive...no more nails ect...for frame work...

I know your going for karndean for your main floor.....but remember you will have 2 differant substrates so these will move totally differant from one another....if I was tiling I would have an exspansion gap between the two.. Speak to your karndean fitter re:this..

You will need to remove any wallpaper paste from the walls.. If your internal walls are studded,...then it will/should be plasterboard..and as you have said...had a plaster skimm applied to it..

Screwing frame work... 6mm masonary drill bit...red raw plugs and 50mm dry wall screws..you can also run a bead off silicone along the back off the 2x2 also.

I would just form a bulk head/boxing in..... Using 2x2 timber for frame work.. Using a white beauty board This way you can use it as a shelve area and easy access to remove by just unscrewing it and use cover caps for the screws..

A few mm will be fine your tile adhesive will fill this in when you comb the wall... The area that's 1x1m how deep is this area... Tap around the walls with your knuckles you will want to hear a solid noise,... If you hear a hollow noise then these areas will need to be removed and...

How bad is the wall....you can usually prime the walls with an acrylic primer and skimm it with a cement based tile adhesive....(within reason)... As for tiles selection that's your call mate..
