I never said it wasn't however you still miss my point that the approx cost of the electricity actually exported to the grid by a domestic PV system is double that as about half of the generated electricity they are paid for is used on site not exported. A PV system owner is paid for the FIT...

On average domestic PV generators will use about half their generated electricity on site and export the other half to the grid but they get paid 15.44p for all of their generated electricity regardless of whether they use it themselves of not. So then the actual cost of the 50% of electricity...

I am not wrong for domestic installs, obviously for larger scale installs with lower feed in tariff rates and different on site usage rates then the figures will be different. Of course ajstoneservices is right about the hidden costs of nuclear, so far the government has had to set aside...

The whole point is to subsidise renewable technologies so that they get the economies of scale to eventually make them price competitive without subsidy whilst the cost of other energy source such as gas and nuclear is only going to rise in the long term as North Sea gas runs out and many of the...

The whole sale price of electricity is around 5p per Unit. If Solar PV generators use half their own generated electricity which they get paid the FIT rate (current 15.44p for below 4kWp) regardless of whether they use it or export it plus they get paid 4.63p export rate for half of what they...

All electricity users pay to subsidise them but this is a tiny fraction of electricity bills, which are mainly raising due to increased costs of gas and profiteering from the big energy companies not the costs of green subsidies. Of course if you took the subsidy away then PV would not make...

    Metal roof - lancashire

Some houses were designed for metal roofs (especially post war) and would need considerable structural work in order to be able to support the additional weight of traditional tiles.

What utter rubbish. I work for a solar PV installation company and all our customers significantly reduce their use of electricity from the grid as well as exporting around 50% of the electricity their panels reduce which will be used by their neighbours in a highly efficient manner (low...

Electrician has left holes in interior brickwork

One of the worst ones IMHO with the wires running down from the socket and then left to the corner as the part going left to the corner of the room is not in any safe zone. Yet if the wires had simply been run to the left of the socket to the corner and then down to the hole in the wall then all...

Insulate under floor - BC notifyable?

To be clear in order for your PV system to qualify for the higher rate feed in tariff your house has to have an EPC of D or above and that can be AFTER the PV system is installed and a 4kWp PV system generally makes a bout a whole grade difference on an EPC.

    plain Mdf sheet

Most decent timber yards will do this. I know our local timber yard will cut just about any piece of wood to just about any size (they have a huge band saw machine in a room of its own)

    rats in flat roof

Good quality plug in rodent deterrents do work quite well as well but be warned some people can be affected by them and they do need leaving on fro a decent amount of time. We used these in combination with eliminating the places the rats were hiding and replacing the broken drain cover...

Solar PV for shed/office & garage

In order to maximise the efficiency of the system you need to only connect the same type of panels in series as generally the smaller inverters (which this would be) only have one MPPT (i.e. can only set themselves up for the peak efficiency of one string of panels in series). If you put two...
