    Combi boilers

We are thinking of getting a combi, but thought it would have to be on the outside wall to be vented (like our existing one). Are you saying that it can go inside, without being vented :?: If so, this would save space in the kitchen, as it could go in the airing cupboard like the above...

    skirting troubles

I've just done exactly the same thing, with the gap at the bottom the same as you describe. I used 'no nails' (recommended by someone who had done the same) and it seems fine. I didn't fill, and theres no flex. Hope it works for you.

    anti fungal

Cheers - seems to have worked a treat (although some of the bad stains remain). Is it best to redo this everyonce in a while? :D I'm going to repaper at some point, so theres no real worry about the pattern.

    3 way dimmers

Many thanks for your comments. At least I know what to be asking the retailer, so your help is most appreciated. Hopefully I'll have these done sometime before next Christmas!!!!!

    anti fungal

Is there an antifungal treatment we can temporarily use on mould, where damp has marked the wallpaper. Although we will be fixing the problem of the damp, it may be a little while. In the meantime, I need/want to treat and clean the mould inside, to stop it spreading further. Any suggestions...

    3 way dimmers

After advice from Jimmy and AttM, I found the dimmers. They were correct type, as in 3 gang, 2 way, but when I looked at them at the retailers, they had marked on 'low voltage only' and something like 'not for use on ring (or loop - can't remember) circuit'. So now theres something else to get...

    water from stone!!!!

Having looked even closer, Ive fially noticed (!!!) that one of the coping stones has a piece broken off, where it overhangs. This is about 4-5" wide, and is broken off by the amount overhaging. The gable end is damp directly underneath this, so i guess I've finally found it. QUESTION - can...

    toilet emptying slowly

Re Jimmys comments - the piping is iron. I don't think that the cystern is that old, it looks newish. I cant find the stop valve anywhere, but I've had a look in the cystern and everything seems clear. Thanks for your help - I'm going to have another look for the valve, 'cos it must be around...

    toilet emptying slowly

I'm still stuck with a slow filling cistern (see above). I dont know much DIY, and I hate anything to do with water, so any advice need to be simple, without the risk of flooding.

    3 way dimmers

Many thanks. Most outlets in my area seem to only sell up to 2 dimmers, but at least I know to keep looking. Do I need to specify that one of the switches is 2 way, or will the dimmer be able to cope as standard.

    water pressure calculating

KPascal (or Kilo Pascal) is a unit of pressure. 7 Kp is about 1lb per square inch. So, your 600Kp is about 90lbs per square inch. Its a hell of a long time since College, but I'm sure that's right. This probably doesn't help, but at least you know what one is. Any use? [Edited by Rolyan...

    toilet emptying slowly

I've got the opposite to the original problem. It emptys easily, but takes forever to fill up (approx. 10 minutes or more). Having had a couple of disasters with water in the past, I'm worried about tackling anything that could leak. What do I look for, and will it be easy to fix.

    3 way dimmers

We want to replace a wall switch, contolling 3 switches (is this called a 3 gang?) with dimmer switches. 2 of the switches are 2 way (i.e. controlled on 2 walls) and 1 is one way (just the one switch for the light). Firstly, can anyone let me know where I can get a 3 way dimmer, as they are...

    water from stone!!!!

We have coping stones running up the edge of the roof, up to the ridge tiles. I've had aother look, and these do overlap by a couple of inches. They have been repointed inbetween each stone, and also along the inside edge running up to the the top. The pointing doesn't appear too bad, other...

    water from stone!!!!

Thanks for both the comments above. I've had another look at the gable, and there is a little bit of pointing missing, approximately one stone wide. Could this little bit of missing pointing allow a lot of damp in? On the inside, the damp extends away from the corner (roughly where the...

    water from stone!!!!

thanks for your response. Nope - no real problem with the pointing. The top of the gable does get damp, 'cos its very exposed, but still surprised its going through. If its not the pointing, what else could it be (and where do I go from here).

    Simple boarding of loft

I've done the loft recently, and used the chipbaords from the large DIY store. They were about £3.50 for a pack of 4. Worked out pretty cheap. Definitely screw them down. Also, dont expect the tongue and groove to just slide into place, you may need to knock them together quite firmly, using...

    water from stone!!!!

We have an old stone built house, circa1900. The gable end appears to be letting the rain through, and the room inside is showing damp. We've had the coping stones repointed on the roof, to stop leaking down, but no joy. Any hints on how to stop it. Could the stones be porous, ad can they be...

    Selecting a shower

once again, thanks to all. I've only been using this site a short while. It's been really useful so far (apart from showing how little I know!!!)
