Foul smell in toilet - caused by air admittance valve? Is this normal?

Thanks, yes, there are two others outside extending above the roof line. They are connected to the drains from 2 upstairs bathrooms. Those two drains and this one from the toilet connect together underground at the front of the house. The drain from the kitchen has no air inlet but possibly...

Foul smell in toilet - caused by air admittance valve? Is this normal?

I have a foul smell in downstairs toilet which also contains a sink and washing machine. Checked the drains outside and everything is flowing well. I suspect water might be being sucked out of the traps for the sink and washing machine. I also investigated what was boxed in under a corner shelf...

New roof valleys - a bit shoddy?

For interest this is what the new, good roofer wrote about the original work. As you might expect there were more issues that weren't immediately visible from the roof edge. "While stripping back the previous workmanship to the valleys I noticed the following things: The cement was incredibly...

New roof valleys - a bit shoddy?

Thought I'd update on what happened next. He did return to address the issues, but when he got here he claimed several were not actually problems (the ones hardest to fix like the tiles being cut back too far). He did replace one broken tile which he had glued back together and redid the cement...

New roof valleys - a bit shoddy?

You’re right. Nothing to lose by going for B first. I’ve sent an email listing all of the issues and have asked him to return to rectify them. Let’s see what happens.

New roof valleys - a bit shoddy?

Question is, what to do now? A, hope it’s alright and forget about it (not a good option) B, get him back to correct it (high risk he’ll bodge it again) C, bite the bullet and get someone else in to sort it out properly. Go for the GRP dry valley as mentioned above. As much as it pains me to...

New roof valleys - a bit shoddy?

Ha. Actually attempted to get 4 quotes. One never got back to me despite lots of chasing. Agreed to go with the second most expensive but he failed to turn up to do the work 3 times. Did end up with the cheapest but he had over 100 positive reviews on MyBuilder. Guess those reviews may not be...

New roof valleys - a bit shoddy?

Yeah, it’s already cracking in parts. The bit I thought was odd is that other valleys on the house are a lot narrower and rain doesn’t really run across the mortar. Here the water runs from the tile and the across the mortar which acts like a bridge to the centre of the valley.

New roof valleys - a bit shoddy?

Just had a couple of roof valleys replaced. It has rained hard since and they haven't leaked, like they did before, but they look a bit shoddy to me. They are much wider than other valleys on the house and seem uneven down the edges. I don't really mind about the aesthetics because they are not...
