Flues, flues and flues. Combi boiler flue through chimney?

We have a 1930's house with two chimney bre@sts. Downstairs only have openings. In the front room, there is a back boiler and gas fire, in the kitchen there is a gas fire. Now, I will take some fairly advanced DIY jobs, but don't know too much about gas appliances, and safety is an issue...

No earth point on my spotlight, help.

I would add that it probably is double insulated, but check just to be sure. If there is a metal base or anything like that, they should be earthed. Double insulated products will always have a mark, two concentric squares, like this: And don't need earthing. :)

Building a rainwater soakawap / sump.

That's great info - much cheaper than Machine Mart too. Thanks :) I had another suggestion from elsewhere to use a plastic cold water tank as the sump, rather than try to dryline concrete. I'm not sure how it would endure. Obviously water contact wouldn't be a problem, and neither would...

Building a rainwater soakawap / sump.

Hi, many thanks for the replies. The regs for soakaway is 5m. But, I can put one in as there is an existing soakaway. Also, if I put a sump, this is sealed and doesn't count, so can be closer. If I site the soakaway 5m away, it will be untenable due to the fall of the plot. Currently...

    Combi boilers

I've had a Vaillant before and it was fine. My parents had the same model and the heat exchanger went, but was under £200 to repair, not bad in 8 years use. I'm currently looking to replace the boiler in our house, to rid ourslelves of the 40ys old! back boiler we inherited. Can;t find...

Building a rainwater soakawap / sump.

Hi all. For my first post, I'd like to propose a problem. We have a 1930's property with a mains sewer at the rear. The guttering at the front of the house empties into (we presume) a soakaway blocked this long time and beyond clearing due to a winter jasmine growing up the house. The...
