    Flue fan

I can see I'm not going to get any help here. I'm not fiddling, I'm asking questions before I fiddle, or don't fiddle as it may be; surely this is the best thing to do before jumping straight in. The responses I'm getting are at best sarcastic and certainly not helpful, very different from the...

    Flue fan

So, accepting that I will not replace it myself, is there anything I can do to get my heating on temporarily tonight? I have read elsewhere about spraying WD40. Is this a good idea just to get the thing working?

    Flue fan

Hi Dan I suppose that was my question. I am competent in a number of areas, I an confident I can undertake the mechanical aspects and the electrical aspects but didn't know if there were regulations/checks that needed adhering to. I'm asking a question not challenging the regulations.

    Flue fan

Hi there. My boiler has tonight developed a squeal and the heat has cut out. On investigation the noise is coming from the fan on top of the boiler supplying the flue so I suppose the boiler has cut out as adequate air flow is not being maintained. So first of all, as an unqualified competent...

    Cold shower problem

Okay...fixed it....something really stupid. When I repaired the PRD I must have moved the temperature control knob on the cover which locates onto splines on the water control, so on refitting they were out of synch and when I thought I was turning the temperature right up, I wasn't. So I reset...

    Cold shower problem

Sorry for the delay getting back. Both elements have resistance, cut outs show continuity. Not sure where the microswitches are. The water temperature does rise when the isolator valve is closed down but still only gets warm before the low pressure overide kicks in.

    Cold shower problem

I have a 18mth old Triton Aspirante shower. Yesterday I noticed water was being ejected from the pressure relief tube. On inspection the hose lining had somehow corrupted and was blocking the water flow which must have activated the PRD. I have replaced the hose with a spare I had to hand, reset...

    Boiler switch of problems

Hi pkent. The valve to the water cylinder is a Honeywell but the central heating valve has no identification on it apart from a code starting BG which may be a Bell and Gossett?

    Boiler switch of problems

Hi Jack. Yes I thought the same at first but I have left it running and the burners continues to cycle in and out indefinitely, continuing to heat the water.

Sorry Jack, what does that mean and how do I fix it?

    Boiler switch of problems

Will do, but it will probably be tomorrow if you don't mind watching out for them. Thanks.

    Boiler switch of problems

Don't think it's the frost protection kicking in from the wall stat as it still happens in summer and I have tried overriding the thermostat. Not sure about a stat on the boiler itself, its not obvious if it is there. As for the cylinder, on checking there is a thermostat actually mounted on it...

    Boiler switch of problems

Thanks for replying D_Hailsham The boiler is in the Garage. There is definitely no room thermostat and as far as I know no cylinder thermostat either. What you explained with the micro switches suggests that it is the valves at fault?

    Boiler switch of problems

I have a Valliant boiler controlled by a Danfoss (wired in not remote) programmer. The problem is that the boiler is not switching off when the controller reaches the 'off' time. The programmer seems to be operating the valves correctly, switching off the supply to the radiators/hot water tank...

Zanussi Z56/3SI Fridge Freezer door seal.

Had this model of Fridge Freezer in my garage since moving house a couple of years ago. Decided to use it yesterday and it cleaned up fine apart from the door seals which have got some mildew growth. Thought I would strip them out and give them a thorough clean or replace them. But I cant seem...

    Heating not switching off

I have a Valliant boiler controlled by a Danfoss (wired in not remote) programmer. I have found recently that the boiler is not switching off when the controller reaches the 'off' time. The programmer seems to be operating the valves correctly, switching off the supply to the radiators/hot water...

    Rodding a rainwater drain

Hi Burnerman Thanks for your reply. My problem is that I can see water running in the inspection chamber, but it is not from the drain I am concerned about as that is still backed up. I presume the blocked drain empties into the pipe leading to the chamber, but cant be sure. This also leads...

    Rodding a rainwater drain

Hi Hugh Not entirely sure that it is not a soakaway but have tried flushing water down the drains from the roof downspouts and the drain in question fills up. This would mean if it were a soakaway it would need to be clearing an awful lot of water quickly, so I suspect it exits to a drain...

    Rodding a rainwater drain

Overnight heavy rain has highlighted a block in my rainwater drain. I think it is 110mm (without measuring). The drain drops for about 70 cm from the grate before turning through 90 degrees. I have had a hose down for about 3-4 meters until it stops, switched on, but the water just backs up. The...

Zanussi FJS 1025 washing Machine bearings

I inherited this machine when moving house. Over the last few months we have noticed small black circular stains occaisionally on washing, similar to the pattern of holes on the inner drum. The machine has now started to knock on spin nd the inner drum has some play in it. I'm guessing the...
