Help with opening up a largish Victorian fireplace

Mine had already been replaced with a horrid gas fire so I opened it all up right the way up to the arch and then had a stove installed in the new recess.

Help with opening up a largish Victorian fireplace

If you take the plaster off you should find an arch probably about a foot (or two even) above the level of the current mantelpiece. I haven't got any pictures on me but that is exactly how mine was set out.

What about handrail steel? Easy to assemble with all the 90s and wall plates?

    Victoria firepalce - lintel ?

I suspect that if you keep going up above the red line then you may find a nice arch, no way to be sure until you have removed more plaster though.

Is this dodgy work? Advice please

If it's loose then it's no good. Don't worry about the cracks as that was just as it has shrunk when drying, I suspect it will be fine after a skim.

Using superseal inserts in 15mm copper

The inserts are to stop plastic pipe deforming, they are not needed at all on copper.

    Two door ruling

There used to be a rule that you had to have two doors from a Kitchen, but this no longer applies. What you want to do would not be a problem.

    Solid State Hard Drives

CylonRaider is incorrect, you can continue to activate Windows XP for as long as you want - this will always be available. Support for Windows XP has ended so there will no longer be bug fixes and security patches issued, this would be enough to stop me using it now...

Insulate a Cold Wall in Bathroom

I'm going to disagree and while heat recovery would work, I'd rather have a warmer room in the first place. I battened and insulated the external wall of my ensuite with 50mm Celotex and it is great now with minimal condensation (there is of course mechanical extraction). I would recommend...

    UPVC Window to tall enough.

I would probably make the gap up with timber and then paint it white or clad it with UPVC as it's just a garage.

use of emulsion in Victorian houses

Can we have some photos please, I'd be interested in the use of a cavity so early. I also suspect condensation as penetrating damp is hard through a 9" wall, let alone one with a cavity. Pictures of outside and inside the room with the damp would be good.
