Agree entirely, and will do. (without PTFE :) )

Kitchen tap connector "came apart" and flooded

Thanks - great info. The connector (isolator valve) was correct, it had flat ends specifically for the tap connectors. All the tap connectors I can find now end in compression joints (eg...

Kitchen tap connector "came apart" and flooded

Thanks. What paste? Googling oiive paste gives ideas for tea! Can't believe I've been doing it wrong for a long time. I won't show you photo of the rest of the under sink plumbing lol :(

Kitchen tap connector "came apart" and flooded

Never say never - I will say when fitted, it wasn't forced and didn't feel stressed - but clearly could've been and I get your point (I think) if the nut was stressed and caused a gentle leak then could be the cause. eBay tat tap connections could also be the cause. Thanks for pointing out the...

Kitchen tap connector "came apart" and flooded

Fortunately, not the cause. The connection that pulled out had rusted (!). Out of site, so not seen. Ok, that's two of you saying no PTFE. I totally agree with the logic as the olive should be the seal - but I was always taught (by father, not a plumber) to use PTFE on the threads. And I...

Kitchen tap connector "came apart" and flooded

Finished kitchen early 2017 and its pretty good. Lovely engineered oak floor..... Fortunately I went over existing tiles (with insulation above, then EUFH, then floor). The old owners didn't tile under the units (lazy gits) - but now grateful..... The kitchen tap came with flexible...

    Condensation on new replacement glass

Good explanation. Sh*t. Does that mean I'd get better insulation if I replace all the other windows lol. Would be good to get a thermal camera on to see the difference. Probably not worth it though :) Thanks

    Condensation on new replacement glass

Hi Slightly confused :) Old double glazing units, 28mm, and one of the top small window panes had failed with internal condensation within the pane. Other panes all OK Had the pane replaced last week and it is clear, however it, and only it has had condensation on it the last two mornings...

IFTTT has anyone actually used it, and how did they get on?

update: The "coffee please" request is starting to become intermittent, needs some TLC and lubricant (wine) to help keep it running smoothly.

IFTTT has anyone actually used it, and how did they get on?

Yeah, have it working with Lightwave RF and google assistant (on phones), so "okay google...." Goodnight = turn on living room lights, turn on bedroom lights, then turn off other lights a few mins later heating boost = heating on for 30 mins Open/close gates = activate driveway gates Coffee...

I found hidden space under my stairs.. can I open it up?

I posted a thread on under-stairs pull out - see https://www.doyourdream.co.uk/2018/04/under-stairs-storage-cupboard-project/ I thought this thread was going to be funny with the neighbours loo! Have to say, I didn't consider fire rating.....

Boiler noise - jet fly-past or trumpet (audio attached)

Just an update on this in case it helps anyone. I flushed the system with clean water, and then added Fernox F3 cleaner. The jet noise has decreased significantly (95%+), and sometimes there is no noise at all running heating or hot water. And if there is noise its much much quieter/shorter...

Mag filter on flow on combi?

Thanks. Its a large towel radiator we use for clothes drying. This *appears* to be DIY or "poor builder" install rather than original, literally the other side of the wall of the boiler, so they just tapped off flow/return at convenient points. As shaggy says, "wasn't me!"

Mag filter on flow on combi?

Hi Just been flushing my system and doing a chemical clean, and only just noticed the magnetic filter is on the CH flow pipe - not the return! Which means all the **** goes through the boiler before being filtered. In addition, there is a radiator t'd off flow and return "before" the filter so...

Boiler noise - jet fly-past or trumpet (audio attached)

@ MOD - lol - you are correct. Violating google terms of service? Not sure why maybe it sounds like a band. Thanks for making me aware

Boiler noise - jet fly-past or trumpet (audio attached)

Right - the point being, if its a noise from the HE then flushing out and cleaning the system is DIYable If its a noise from the gas valve, then yes, I don't/won't touch that, and will get someone in. The question being - what skills am I seeking? Will any gas-safe guy have the right...

Boiler noise - jet fly-past or trumpet (audio attached)

Hi Just a quick "bump" - Any thoughts on heat exchanger blockage or if its gas-valve tuning required? (I am planning to put in some chemical cleaner and flush the system and reverse-flush the gas/water HE just in case - but would be good to know if I need to locate a gas safe man - and know...

Leak from Vaillant TurboMax Plus 837E pump

Cool. Just fitted a new HW HE and a new diverter valve (thought may as well when its off!) - and that was c. £80 for both. Pump failed 2 years ago and that was an easy swap. Seem "solid" - but starting to get odd glitches which I'm not sure about (hence a few posts on here!) I do have a mag...

Leak from Vaillant TurboMax Plus 837E pump

That's good to know - I thought it was part of the pump, so good to know you can get it off. Every time I've filled the boiler, never got any air out of the front of the pump (same as pic) - its always water? Do your reliability comments also hit the Turbomax 828? Mine is 16yo and I'm...

Leak from Vaillant TurboMax Plus 837E pump

The photos seems to suggest the leak is coming from the auto-bleed valve (the black tyre-valve-cap like thing at the top)? May be worth drying it all up and being accurate where the leak is from. The pump connects by a push-fit into two pipes, one near the top, one near the bottom. Both seal...
