What is this box? Something to do with telephone, cable?

Thanks RG. The cable disappears behind the wall on the landing, so it may take a bit of time/luck to track down where it leads to.....

What is this box? Something to do with telephone, cable?

Thanks RandomGrinch.....I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years! I suppose they are usually linked to the main house alarm? Looking at the loose wiring, do you know if this unit is still live and active?

What is this box? Something to do with telephone, cable?

Hi all, I've just started redecorating a room in my new house and have come across this box on the wall, above the skirting board. I think it's to do with a telephone wire but does anyone know exactly what it is? It has two red "buttons" on the right hand side and a key that fits in the...

How do I turn my UFH back on?

It's a bit of a coincidence isn't it! As soon as I get working UFH they switch the gas off  There are supposedly 1000+ properties affected and they are saying that they need to switch off the gas for every one, before they start work. This could take days and days.

How do I turn my UFH back on?

Unfortunately, yes! It has already been down for 18 hours.

How do I turn my UFH back on?

UFH update. I opened all 4 valves and waited a few hours to see what happened (the floor is made of wooden floor boards so it takes ages for them to warm up). The boiler temp kept fluctuating between 40 and 95 but after a few hours we could feel the floor was warm! Brilliant. I then...

How do I turn my UFH back on?

I reset the boiler and that seemed to fix the error problem. I need the heating and water tonight, so I'll give the valves another try tomorrow.

How do I turn my UFH back on?

Thanks. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

How do I turn my UFH back on?

An update. I opened both red valves and could feel the hot water in one of the pipes leading away from the valve to the underfloor. I couldn't turn the green valves at all, even using a bit of force. I left it a few hours (the floor used to take a while to heat up) but it remained cold. About...

How do I turn my UFH back on?

Out of interest, do you know why there are 4 taps? I'd have just thought there would be two pipes - an "in" and an "out". Perhaps the floor area is too big for a single loop?

How do I turn my UFH back on?

I've only turned one red tap on, with "kitchen" written on it. I'm not sure what should happen but there was no noise, or flow of water I could hear. If I touch the metal valve it feels warm but the plastic pipe leading from that tap is completely cold.

How do I turn my UFH back on?

I have under floor heating in my kitchen. Last summer I had my boiler replaced and now I want to turn the UFH back on, it doesn't seem to work. I assume that when the boiler was replaced they switched off the UFH and forgot to put it back on? I think the unit that runs the UFH is in this...

Internal flue sealing on Baxi combi

I've recently had a new Baxi combi boiler installed. As the photo shows, the old boiler's flue pipe ran through this wooden panel to outside, while a new hole was drilled for the wider flue pipe that came with the Baxi. A flue kit has been added to vent the gases away from the flue outlet, and...

    Outdoor porcelain

I am looking to put down some outdoor porcelain tiles across a relatively small area - about 5m2. I will be putting down a concrete base and then applying the adhesive on top. I know that the adhesive has to be suitable for outdoor use, but I have a couple of specific questions: - does the...

    Boiler leak?

Not really no. It drips when we top up the water and when the boiler runs. In the last day or so we have noticed water leaking from around the white condensate pipe. We have been in touch with a plumber who suggested it may be a cracked heat exchanger....?

    Boiler leak?

Thanks for the response. I have just spent an hour or so searching every joint and checking all the pipes and the floor for a sign of a leak and didn't find one. I then put my finger on the white pipe that comes out in the centre of the boiler and felt a strong 'pulse' that coincided with the...

    Boiler leak?

Any ideas or suggestions are gratefully received! We have a Keston c36 combi boiler which seems to be losing water fairly rapidly. Usually 20 minutes after the heating has gone off an E37 error message flashes which I am told means the water pressure has dropped. It was serviced last week...

    Patio adhesive?

Thanks all. Will look in to your ideas and maybe post a pic when it is all done!

    Patio adhesive?

I have spent what seems like weeks laying a patio in my garden with 40cmx40cm limestone slabs. I was about to finish when I noticed some of the slabs have already shifted. The mortar is solid and has stuck to the old concrete base but the slab itself hasn't stuck to the mortar. Those that...

Limestone Slab patio on concrete uneven base

I want to lay some limestone slabs in my backgarden. The problem is that the base is concrete (it used to have a bomb shelter on it!) in most places with a small area of very old slabs. I am going to lay my new slabs on this base. I will lay the slabs in a mortar bed but how can I build up...
