I need to confirm what I am going to do will work

ok. It looks like, as crafty said, the earth is being used as a switch wire. You need to get someone in.

I need to confirm what I am going to do will work

Doesn't sound like Fret is connecting anything other than the reds and blacks though. I'm thinking he is managing to get some kind of back feed to the wall lights, through the main light. Which might explain why it didn't go bang when he put both blacks together. If one is a neutral, then the...

I need to confirm what I am going to do will work

connect any black to the blue. connect a red of the other cable to the brown. leave the other two cores unconnected for now. If the light is switching, then you just need to connect the other two together. If it is not switching, then start again with the other black. Please do not...

I need to confirm what I am going to do will work

Old rubber three core used those colours. I read that somewhere :D Can you work out which is the neutral? One of the blacks hopefully. Then it sounds like you have two switched feeds in. One of which will go to the brown. And a switched feed out to your wall lights. If you can figure out...

    Washing machine

Chris. I put some blockage remover down last night before I left the job. Bought the strongest stuff I could find from the local shed. Wasn't sure if it would work, hence my opening post. Just been back to check, and it's all clear now. I shall make a note of your second idea though...

Just kidding 8) .......won't empty, due to the drain being blocked. Drain from washing machine connected to trap under sink and as the waste is completely solid it's not going anywhere. Physically removed and cleaned as much of the waste as is accessible and I don't really want to start...

Apart from the occasional cooker? 6mm twin and earth is the cable normally used for connecting freestanding twin cavity electric cookers. Just sleeve the earth.

    Main EARTH cable (again)

I'd get someone else in for a second opinion on the installation. Existing and new.

    Main EARTH cable (again)

To write a ticket on the new job, he would have had to make sure the existing earth was up to scratch or replace it before he started. Is it possible that the earth has been ran from the new unit and you just can't see it compheat? There again, I guess you would have noticed the 10mm at the...

    Main EARTH cable (again)

The terminal block on the meter board? So what has that block got connected to it other than the earth to the new CU?

    Main EARTH cable (again)

You could ask for an earth to be supplied, but I doubt it would be available. You will need to get your electirician to do the connections to the gas and the water, and he will want to check everything else I would imagine. If the main bonding hasn't been done, then the rest of the...

    panel heater

No. You removing both plugs doesn't stop someone else coming along and connecting one. Potentially dangerous, so best not do it!
