Sorry, the lintel would be going where the spirit level is and will span 150mm beyond each side.
My worry was the quarter and half blocks it will be resting on
I have a 900 type c to go over a window on ground floor of extension, the window is 600.
my bond means the lintel will rest on a half block on one side and a quarter on the other (plus slightly on to next full block)
do I need to have a full block directly under both sides?
Yes, the entire build is using these from foundation to wall plate on both skins. Around 1900 blocks, Heavy but cheap at £70p+vat. I couldn’t source engineering bricks due to lockdown so cracked on with these.
We have 50mm insulation in cavity and 70mm internal to meet Scottish regs.
Some of the bends are temporary pieces which have since been removed, the end result will be a straight run along the back and a straight run under the extension to the road with rod point at end and then the chamber.
it is suspended timber and you'll also see i missed the air brick on the left...
Hi Everyone,
Made a fair bit of progress but travelled quite a bit with work and then lock down came and materials became hard to source.
I am now slowly getting the blocks laid up to first floor level, not quite there yet and block work is not the tidiest but as it is being rendered and I...
Hi,
I am fixing ground and first floor joists via hangers on ledger boards, walls are heavy dense blocks.
Do I need to use a resin anchor kit to attach the ledger boards?
Thanks woody,
it’s dense 7n blocks, not lightweights. I’m hoping that makes a difference?
understand regarding render, I’ve got lots of blocks here and no bricks, a lot of spare time and no chance of a delivery so was hoping I could adjust
I am almost at ground level with blocks and architect has specified bricks from ground up to dpc then rendered blocks.
Forgetting planning permission for a second, why would I not build in block entirely, the existing house is render from ground to roof.
I understand I need to have a break in...
Hi,
My extension will have a suspended timber floor. There is a sleeper wall but it has its own foundation same as normal walls.
the spec for the over site is
150mm hardcore
25mm sand
1200 qauge visqueen
50mm concrete
Seems excessive just so covert he soil and stop vegetation?
I mentioned...
yeah there will be a chamber on the left and a rodding eye on the right....all on the outside of the building. Current setup is just to keep the house running.
Today we poured the concrete, now I can relax and go in work trips without worrying about trenches collapsing and being flooded.
It’s probably going to be the end of the month before I start laying the blocks up to dpc
I’ve now demolished the back of the garage which was single skin brick so easy enough.
I got a digger and operator in for two days to get the trenches dug out, he done the bulk of the work and I went round tidying up. Originally I was going to do this by hand but we wanted to get moving...
I’ve decided to get a man with a digger in to dig out the trenches. The weather is terrible and I’ll be emptying them every day if I hand dig. The quicker the concrete goes in the better.
it’ll be a just over a week before he can do it.
In the mean time I’ve done some temporary drainage so we...
Today i started marking the foundations, the weather is terrible and the rain comes every half hour but i hope to start digging this weekend.
Our walls will be 15cm from the boundary on the ground floor so we will be digging exactly on the boundary at both sides, ill come in a little more to be...
Back to lifting slabs, and there are slabs underneath :(
a few trips to the dump, i picked up a small camping trailer which has saved a few quid.
Not your typical slab base under there...
luckily i had some help...
but he got bored and left me to it.....This took quite a bit of...
Whilst waiting on planning building regs I started to clear the site before the winter, thinking id get the regs before i was done and i could keep on going.
Before:
I got rid of the shed and started to lift all the slabs:
Under the shed:
We had various drainage issues and now we...
