Two story extension and renovation - DIY

Some before pictures from the estate agent, it looks much better in the photos...they don't show the various leaking windows, leaking roof and shower which rains into the kitchen. There is a new surprise every week.

Two story extension and renovation - DIY

Hi Everyone, We bought a 1930's semi in July 18 which had been in the hands of its previous owners for over 50 years, both aged 97. We bought with the intention to extend and fully rennovate. We finally have planning and building regs approval after about 18 months of messing around between...

    Drains for extension above ground

I think I have the reverse issue, my slope runs downhill from the front of house where main sewer is) to back and existing drains are all ok with this. So the pipe is deep underground at the street, but only just under the surface at the rear, I then need to run 4m further back and then 6m to...

    Drains for extension above ground

Hi, It would appear based on my drain layout that if I connect to existing “underground” drain it would be above ground along the rear elelevation due to the distance and downward slope of plot. The FFL will be about 1m above ground level at the rear. it’s a suspended timber floor. How would...

Advice on architect and planning process please

Whatever timescale you have in your mind for getting planning/building regs approval, double it . It's taken me a year but probably 3-4 months of that was my own indecision. I pad 1175 for a an architect to do full planning drawings and building regs, I ended up paying an additional 300 as we...

How easy/hard to break up concrete path?

I have a lot more work to do so it made sense for me. I'd have had to hire 5 or 6 times over a few months. It will take you longer to move the material than break it, try to break it in largish pieces, much faster to move then. Enjoy!

How easy/hard to break up concrete path?

I'm pretty sure that will do the job, as a comparison I bought this for £99 and it went through 12" concrete like butter, it made the job so easy. https://www.aldi.co.uk/1700w-demolition-breaker/p/066252060198700 I'm sure you can find similar elsewhere. 3 year warranty and it's yours to keep...

    Extension Foundation

Engineer has specified a 750 mm wide 200 mm thick steel reinforced strip foundation minimum 650 dig. It's a full plans regs application, if i was to then suggest using trench do I need them to submit new plans or will BCO (council) accept changes as we build?

Sliding doors - which brand Origin or Reynaers?

What price did you get for 6m on reynaers? I've been quoted 13k + VAT for 5m!! Is it really that much more expensive than other brands?

    Oversite for suspended timber

yeah hand dig, access is poor and the trenches are only a few cm from the boundary on two sides so the digger would be offset so can't see that working too well. 150 was just a guess, I presume it will be much bigger but i thought if i assume 150, then ill just need to scrape a bit more off...

    Oversite for suspended timber

I am currently clearing the area for an extension, its roughly 8m wide x 5.2m out externally, engineer and architect are still working on regs drawings but I'm keen to clear as much as i can whilst the weather is good as I'm doing it all by hand and there is a raised patio of 80 slabs. Site is...

    Rebuild attached garage

We have an attached garage which was added to our semi at some point by previous owners, there is currently no access to the house via the garage, just a door to rear garden. We are building an extension (planning approved yesterday) which will access the garage via a utility room. The garage...

    reuse slates?

I am considering sorting our existing roof whilst doing extension so we don't need to touch it again in our lifetime. Currently it is slate (unsure of type) 1930 built. If i was to strip front and back, am i likely to have enough to at least recover the front? the back and extension could be...
