Hi All, Newbie Here in midst of extension

Awesome family effort and hats off to you for taking on such a big project. Are you a tradesman or have you done building projects before? It's way more than I would dare take on.

Garden levelling, retaining walls and patio

Our back garden was only useable for sledging by the kids in winter. We decided to place a larger/higher patio by the house, then a retaining wall with steps, a flat lawn, and banking up the sides and back to the fences. After getting quotes of around £12k I decided to take on my first ever DIY...

How do I cut BIG sandstone blocks?

Apparently there's an abundance of 'white sandstone' here around Edinburgh, so I'm thinking that's what this is...

How do I cut BIG sandstone blocks?

Anyone had any experience with a concrete chainsaw? I see they can be hired for huge money, but are they worth it and would it cut sandstone (and if so, would the wear charges be even more money?

How do I cut BIG sandstone blocks?

Thanks Oldbutnotdead - I watched those videos previously, but the guy takes 10 minutes to cut a piece the size of a brick. I'd die of old age before getting through these blocks. Think an angle grinder cut all around then blows with a big hammer might do it, or am I wasting my time?

How do I cut BIG sandstone blocks?

Hi all, Planning a dry stone retaining wall in the garden and bought a bargain load of reclaimed sandstone where a local railway bridge is being demolished. However, some of the blocks that were dropped in the garden are nearly a cubic yard in size! Any ideas on how I can split these into...

Raised area ready to lay patio

There's a dwarf wall 200mm out from the house so the DPC isn't compromised. Drainage pipes run under the back-fill from a field drain behind the retaining wall and a down-pipe ready for channel drainage at the foot of the retaining wall

What oil for an old plate compactor 120cc

Thanks Dave. Unfortunately the pull-cord mechanism has been replaced, so although it says Honda, I can't be certain (though I guess that's most likely, so lets go with that!)

What oil for an old plate compactor 120cc

I wouldn't expect anyone to be familiar with the particular engine, just an idea of what grade of oil would usually go in a garden machine of this sort of size (10/30, 5/50 etc)? Thanks

What oil for an old plate compactor 120cc

Hi all, I've bought myself a 2nd hand (more like 22nd hand!) Erhit wacker (an old brand that was apparently bought by Belle many years ago). It started alright when I picked it up but could probably do with an oil change - any idea what oil I should use, and approximately what quantity? (there...

    Cement mixer - car boot?

I bought a 120 ltr electric mixer which stands 5 feet tall on its stand. It was easy to disassemble the stand/wheels (4 bolts/nuts) and the parts fit in my Mondeo no problem (might even have got away with not folding the back seats down). Far cheeper to buy one from Gumtree and re-sell it after...

Garden banking 45 degree gradient - too much?

Hi all, My garden levelling project is moving fast and we are having fun with an excavator digger. We've dug out a few trailer loads and cut embankments around the garden perimeter at approx. 45 degrees (after leaving half to one metre undisturbed so as not to compromise fence post stability)...
