    Kitchen waste pipe

I want to move the sink to the other side of the kitchen. Trouble is because there is a doorway in the way, the waste pipe will have to run underground to reach the outside world (i.e. I can't just run a 40mm pipe through or along the wall to an existing drain). What diameter pipe would be...

    Sash lock dimensions

I actually found a simpler (and cheaper) solution. I read the insurance requirements again and an alternative to the sash lock is two key operated bolts fitted top and bottom. We already have those fitted but one of them never worked. Turns out the key was damaged. Changed they key, lock works...

    Sash lock dimensions

VMT John, perhaps I will find an easy swap for the existing lock. My original question was to ascertain which dimension the 64/76mm referred to so I could compare it to what I had. Cheers, Mike

    Sash lock dimensions

I doubt it, the existing lock is over 50 years old - had mm been invented then? :) I have taken it out and measured it - I need to relate this to modern locks. I'll pop down Q&Q tomorrow and measure up, then come home and order one at an acceptable price on t'internet. Thanks for the...

    Sash lock dimensions

I need to uprate a sash lock to meet insurance requirements and seem to have options of (nominally) 64mm or 76mm. Is this the dimension from the face of the lock (effectively the distance the lock goes into the door) and thus determines the position of the handles/keyholes? Mike

Stolen trailer in Burnley- help please

It's a good job I offered an apology, otherwise you may have wasted your time going off on a long rant .... :) I never have a problem with sarcasm, I would be hypocritical if I did. Although there were several sarcastic comments, none seemed to be antagonistic or obstructive except yours...

Stolen trailer in Burnley- help please

Funnily enough I didn't. Something to do with being 200 miles from home, which is why I asked to be contacted by phone not email. I also asked for your assistance via your tw*tface email address to which I had no reply, other than a sarcastic post on this forum. To me you seemed like somebody...

Stolen trailer in Burnley- help please

Surely not even an Essex boy would be that dumb... :) As for Freecycle, I've tried the Burnley and Pendle Group but the post has not been approved for some reason. Maybe the B&P Freecycle moderator thinks this is a joke.... Perhaps he underestimates the generosity of some people, he...

Stolen trailer in Burnley- help please

Hopefully, but where should I look in the 36 hours before I need to go back to Brizzle? Also, I've still got a garden patio to complete. Any help very welcome, and assistance will be repaid generously, especially if I get my trailer back! Mike

Stolen trailer in Burnley- help please

If someone were kind enough to lend me a trailer, I'd make another trip back to return it. I'd rather pay for the extra fuel than risk the thieving b******s nicking my gear. Do you know of any trailer rental companies or someone selling a trailer? Mike

Stolen trailer in Burnley- help please

'Here's a crime reference number'. Not much use when my car insurance doesn't cover it though :( Anybody in the Burnley area got a trailer I could borrow to get my gear back home? Obviously happy to leave a deposit and there would be a crate or two of beer in it for you! Mike

Stolen trailer in Burnley- help please

Last night (24 May), some b****** stole the trailer off my car from outside my inlaws house in Burnley. It's 5ft by 3ft black frame, varnished plywood sides with aluminium trim around the top. It's running on 12" Minilight alloys, 165/60 Yokahamas with a spare mounted on the front. If you...

    Underground waste pipes / drains

No. The only vent is the one on the soil pipe from the upstairs loo, about 10m from the downstairs loo. I've lived here for 7 years and never had a problem even with the vent pipe (now removed) being blocked. Having thought about it more, what could cause a vacuum sufficient to drain a toilet...

They were shut for the bank holiday.... :)

    Underground waste pipes / drains

Job done. Needn't have worried about the vent, it's existence was superfluous as there was about 50 years of rust and twigs in it. The old clay system came out easily and the new pipes connected without a problem. I'd set aside the whole weekend to do it, the gullies were concreted in by...

    Underground waste pipes / drains

I really am confused now :(. What do you mean by 'theres your sub stack' following the quote from the B-M website? My interpretation is that as I have no appliances on either branch and the only WC connected is no more than 0.7m above the invert, a vent is not needed. Have I missed something...

    Underground waste pipes / drains

Thanks Cider, I'm going to fit a gully to replace the one that's there and use a ribbed adaptor (similar to a pan connector) to connect it to the broken pipe. I just hope that the step doesn't cause blockages (the kitchen is the next project on the 'to do' list and we want to move the sink so...
