mixing dense and light concrete blocks

I'm repairing a single story building originally built from 6 inch concrete block. The missing sections of wall are being built with 100mm block then the whole building has to be dry lined with 4x2. The brickie ran out of dense concrete blocks and laid 3 courses of thermalite. Can he carry on...

    alternative to lead?

Thanks very much Tony, lot of info. Would you expect the felt to last as long as on a flat roof (15 or so years?)

    alternative to lead?

I am having a pitched roof (approx 35 degrees) fitted with a parapet wall running along one edge (about 14 metres) so it will need a gully. Is there a cheaper alternative to lead for this job please?

How much water for a shower?

In my quest to find a way of supplying water to en-suites each with a shower, from a rubbish water supply A pressurized electric cylinder has been reccommended to me. I had been thinking of electric showers so I would only need hot water for basins. However this cylinder has a capacity of 125...

    Separate supply or not?

I am a bit confused now. When this b&b is done I will efectively have a large 6 bedroom house. What kind of supply would you expect that to have? :?

    Separate supply or not?

Ah, That was the answer I got when I asked for a rough estimate and I was speaking to surveyor bod. He definitely said 3 phase and I thought, 2 phase. I didn't know there was such a thing as that. Perhaps he was dumbing the technical terms down for a layman. I still need to go through their...

    Separate supply or not?

Electric company rang me back and said they would probably run an extra wire so the house would be 2 phase. The pole is about 10-12 feet from the meter, cost in the region of £300. Sparky told me I need 25mm swa to supply the new build, it's a 30metre run now I've measured properly. :shock...

    Separate supply or not?

Each room will be en-suite with a shower but I am hoping to get some kind of "instant" water heating system to supply all three rooms. Basically I think I need 2 double sockets and 2 lights in each one as well as the supply to control the water heater which will probably have to be oil or calor...

    Separate supply or not?

I'm in the process of converting a redundant farm building into 3 B&B rooms (if the planners ever say yes). The building is next to my house and about 20 metres from where the supply enters the house and consumer unit. Can I run a supply from the CU or will I need a separate one from the...

    minimum depth of screed

Can someone tell me the minimum depth of screed I can use over Jabfloor or something similar. I have a split level slab (6 inch step) which I am now thinking of levelling up with concrete. As the remaining original surface is slightly sloping I thought the easiest thing to do would be DPM...

    vandex bb75

I have a long retaining wall which will form the back of a new building. I am thinking of tanking it with vandex BB75. Its a cotswold stone wall and very rough surface. I have filled all the worst crevises and holes as advised by the Vandex data sheet. Has anyone experience of this product and...

    improving water pressure

Waterboard man said the pipe on our side of the meter could be scaled up. he also put in a request to change the meter to a larger bore, 32mm I think. Is that likely to help? The house is about 120 feet from the road on solid rock so the thought of laying a new pipe is a bit daunting. :(

    improving water pressure

We live at the end of the water main. The pressure in the house is too low to run more than one tap with any force. Ive had the water company out and they say the pressure in the road is not too bad and they have monitored the flow for a couple of weeks. I have a combi boiler and want to add...
