    Socket Heights

My understanding was that the socket heights in the OSG are to cater for wheelchair users. You could argue that they would not apply in a loft conversion, unless you're fitting a stairlift too! 8)

    Grumble grumble part P/plumbers grumble....

You're right, the 17th doesn't exist yet. I was merely speculating on the possible changes which have been discussed here and elsewhere for a good while now. Silly me. why do you find it so hard to believe that someone who is registered to carry out electrical work to support their primary...

    Grumble grumble part P/plumbers grumble....

 Where do I start?? OK, the Part P comment was supposed to refer to the Plumber/sparks carrying our uncertified work to a poor standard, not the 17th edition. I'm not confused, more BEMUSED. Re the regs, OSG pg.59 and reg 601-08-01 should cover it, as its not a SELV socket outlet...

I haven't had a chance to see it, but she reckons its a bog standard plastic faceplate and backbox screwed to the floor, so my guess would be not.

    Grumble grumble part P/plumbers grumble....

It's more of a musty brown area actually... I can't see anything grey about it, the regs are pretty clear, Accessories alllowed outside Z3 don't include SO's. he's set himself up as being "competent" to carry out electrical work and blatantly isn't. Anyway, **** it it's friday, gonna...

    Grumble grumble part P/plumbers grumble....

just got a call from a member of my family who has recently moved into a new place. A plumber (who is NIC and Trustmark registered and should know better) has just replaced the JB under the bath (dodgy I know) which feeds the shower pump with a socket outlet! Her and her other half smelt a...

    Consumer Unit Knock Outs

P.S That was for insulated CUs. Obviously metal clad units need grommets

    Consumer Unit Knock Outs

Same here, cut a rubber grommet to fit and run it round the knockout. looks much neater and cuts down on holes for prying fingers!

That's only because the CPC (assuming its all wired in Twin & Earth) has a smaller Cross-Sectional Area and therefore a higher resistance. If they're all relatively similar readings then that's cool & groovy 8)

    Shed Base

Hi all, having just laid a (rather well done  ) patio, we have wisely decided to put a shed on it  . I know a concrete base would have been better, but as the slabs are there would it be acceptable to make a wooden frame from fenceposts for the base. lay a wooden floor and bolt...

Yes, back garden, v. small. They are riven concrete 450x450 bog standard slabs. According to the spec they can be either solid bedded or laid on sand.

    Patio advice

Cheers Thermo, is 300mm too much then? Hope it is... :P I was told 200mm of MOT, followed by 50-60mm of S/C, then the slab. I'll be quite happy to dig less...just out of interest, what quantities of sand/hardcore are we talking about for a 27m/sq area?

    Patio advice

:? Evening... having started digging my lawn up to lay a patio, I've found that as well as being as tough as old boots its also laid on good old London clay. Does this mean I should dig a bit more (I'm already digging down about 300mm) and put a layer of hardcore down to help with the...
