2-way lighting switch - can't get it right

2-way lighting switch - can't get it right

Thanks to you all :) ColJack - you were spot on with your suggestion of matching whats downstairs to what I did upstairs. The downstairs must have been wired using wrong colours or something, but I matched it upstairs and now it's all working :) Thanks again.

2-way lighting switch - can't get it right

We have a landing light, controlled by two switches. One downstairs, one upstairs. I've replaced the upstairs switch, and I've been unable to rewire it successfully! (yes, I do regret no noting which wire was wired to which terminal :D ) I have 3 wires coming from downstairs (red, blue +...

Installed electric oven, and circuit now trips.

Nope, no plug, just bare wires at the end (whirlpool oven by Ikea). I chucked it in the bin, along with the socket, thinking I wouldn't need it. Doh. It was the same size as the thick grey flat cables supplying all the sockets around the kitchen. Chunky stuff. I might upload some photos when...

Installed electric oven, and circuit now trips.

ok, I'm going to put that plug socket back on, and put a plug (with 13amp fuse) on the oven cable. Stupidly I binned the plug socket thinking I wouldn't need it again.....trip to B&Q on the way home..... All the cables are very easily accessed via removing the plinth under the kitchen units.

Oh, yes, you're right. Its is this exact switch: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/28394/Electrical-Supplies/Switches-Sockets/Chrome/Satin-Chrome-Angled-Edge/Volex-45A-DP-Sw-13A-Skt-Blk-Ins-SC-Angled-Edge The oven came with the cable attached to it. Thickness of the three cables inside the...

Installed electric oven, and circuit now trips.

I'll double check the wattage when I get home, but originally I did calculate before that the 30amp would cope ok. I've a feeling the oven in 2400w, but I'll double check. One thing I forgot to say, was that where the cable comes out of the wall, it comes from a switched FCU above the...

Installed electric oven, and circuit now trips.

Ok, firstly, I really don't know a lot about electrics, so excuse me if I get any/all terminology wrong here. Basically, we've got a 25 year old house. The consumer unit (or fuse box as I call it) is pretty old, and has about 7 fuses/jumpers/what ever the correct term is. 3 are 30amp (plugs...

How to do solder ring joints in close proximity?

That was exactly what I did do :D I thought it would help seal the joint a bit better. Lesson learned when almost all the joints started to weep when I turned the water back on ;)

How to do solder ring joints in close proximity?

Yeah, I did consider those tee taps, but I figured 3 solder joints + 1 compression joint (for the valve) would be better than 3 compression joints. I cocked up some compression joints - thought doing them as tight as I possible could with a spanner was the right way  Since that...

How to do solder ring joints in close proximity?

Thanks for the advice all :) Sounds like doing both equal tees at same time is the way to go. To give a better picture of what I'm doing, I drew the below: The blue pipework is already there - I will be adding the pipework in red (all the pipes are actually cold ;) ) You can see the...

How to do solder ring joints in close proximity?

Hi there, I'm about to attempt doing some solder ring joints for the first time  I'm replacing the plumbing under my kitchen sink. I will be having two equal tee joints (cold feeds for dishwasher and washing machine) very close to each other. As close as possible really. I'm...
