    Spur behind a skirting board

Oh.. Is this so? I thought fused spurs where non notifiable (providing not in special location etc). Or are you picking up the OP wanting to put in a "spur" not a "fused spur" ? Note -- I'm NOT an electr but a diligent DIYer that's also intending installing a fused spur (that thought this...

    Notifiable??????

Hi DESL, You say this is notifiable because it's in a spec location AND extending. Is my understanding correct then that simple replacement of a fitting in a special location would be non-notifiable (I want to replace a 3-spot fitting in the bathroom with a proper bathroom fitting)...

    Central Heating Clock/timer

Heyup... are you not contradicting yourself a bit ? you seem to be saying: * socket must be unswitched * switched sockets are much safer :?: :?: :?: :?:

BS 1363 UK 3 pin plug-why Earth pin cannot be half insulated

Till someone knowledgable comes along I'd guess plastic only if there is nothing else to connect the earth to. Any/All other plugs would then have full metal to ensure maximum possible conductive surface (for safety).

    Central Heating Clock/timer

I thought of doing exactly this for approximately 10 seconds till I realised this would be a very bad thing.... Never mind the gas & water & electric all-together issue, powering the controller from one socket/spur and the boiler (often a long way away) from another would leave serious danger...

BS 1363 UK 3 pin plug-why Earth pin cannot be half insulated

You could always turn back to your mate and asking him what he thinks the reason might be! Might be interesting to hear his ideas!

    Part 'P' Testing

I thought I'd read (on this site amongst other places) that LABC cannot pass on the charges of using a contract electician to do whatever testing they deem appropriate. Sounds like LABC are encouraging you to run your entire extension off several trailing 13-amp 6-way sockets plugged into...

    New gas pipe run

Finding it difficult to comply, is, I assume why the original installer didn't bother trying... I've not taken the whole skirt off, but lets just say that I am pretty confident the existing 15mm is less that 25mm from the nearest elec cable. I didn't know the /6 rule - but it makes sense...

    New gas pipe run

Thanks folks. Interesting to learn that it's probably not verbotten to pop the gas behind the skirting. Still, I'll try and avoid it if our corgi guy can get a better route. (Not even sure if the larger pipe required would fit in the gap behind the skirt.) Anyway... thanks all for the...

    New gas pipe run

Actually, we do have confidence in him - in fact he's refurbed our whole CH/HW system & has done our regular boiler services for 6 years at our last place -- so we have full confidence in his abilities, skills etc, and (if it helps indicate our level of confidence/trust) I'd have no problems...

    New gas pipe run

We will be having an old boiler replaced next year. Our plumber has indicated that a new bigger gas pipe is needed to it. I've no problem with this as (1) we know him and (2) reading on here there seems to be a lot of genuine requirement to upgrade older gas pipes. We did not discuss...

Relocating CH 'programmer' - What cable size

I've been checking the exact route today and think my 3-4 m estimate is a bit low ... It may be as much as 8 metres by the time the cables are routed from end-to-end. It will be a mix of surface conduit and cable clipped. With some of the cable clipped stretch in the ceiling/floor void...

Relocating CH 'programmer' - What cable size

It's an S-Plan - more-or-less *. I've had the lid off the HC wiring centre and traced it all back because it wasn't immediately appearent which std plan it was. But still with S-Plan I need (as you say) 4+ Earth, so I will need two cables whether I used 2 or 3 core (+E). If 1.0mm2 will do...

Relocating CH 'programmer' - What cable size

Hi.. First post after weeks of lurking, so please be nice to the newbie! I want to relocate my CH programmer/timer from the back of my first floor airing cupboard to room immediately below. It is currently connected via 2 3-core flexes to the wiring centre which in turn is connected to a...
