Before I start, I am part p registered!

I know that adding a light switch or fitting in a bathroom is notifiable, but how about if you move them (staying within the same zone) ????

If you move them you would be extending a cct and as it's in a special location it is notifiable

If you can self certify, then what is the problem?

Just notify if you are not sure, then you are covered

I know that I could self certify this job and it would not cause a problem, but as it is only the relocation of the switch (existing wiring just moved) and not an addition I was wondering as to how this sits with the regs..

I know that it's not much, but this job will cost £3.77 to notify (duplicate certs to builder and homeowner - under care and repair scheme) and I do a good bit of work like this and it adds up over a year! ) also I'm a tight wad

Surely you'd include any notification in your price as a standard clause.

I'm not a spark but christ, christ, that's not much more than the cost of a beer & certainly less than I pay for a decent bottle of wine; if your Part P you should be raking it in!

Hi DESL,

You say this is notifiable because it's in a spec location AND extending.

Is my understanding correct then that simple replacement of a fitting in a special location would be non-notifiable (I want to replace a 3-spot fitting in the bathroom with a proper bathroom fitting)...
and/or
cct extension OUTSIDE of spec location would also be non-notifiable?? (I want to re-run a couple of lamps & switches on an existing lighting circuit ( not in spec locations)

Just trying to improve my clarity of what a careful diligent (but aware of own limitations) DIYer can legally do without notification.

(Hope this is not high jacking thread too much)

You don't need to notify when you replace a fitting and/or it's cable in a special location. If you extend a circuit in a special location or kitchen, you should notify.

You can extend an existing circuit, outside sp locs or kitchens, to add one or more lighting points or sockets without notifying.
