Boiler left unsafe and leaking fumes after service?

Fair comment dilalio, and I confess to having blundered more than once of course. Thankfully to no-one's serious loss. I hope, though, to have learned from the experience. A family member is a consultant surgeon and has regaled me with stories of errors in trauma cases that could have caused a...

Boiler left unsafe and leaking fumes after service?

I seem to have struck a nerve here. My 'error filled nonsense' as you so politely put it was on the nail. There was no blockage but there was a low water level and consequent low flow rate which offered similar symptoms to an air lock. Clearly there was some flow but so little that the energy...

Boiler left unsafe and leaking fumes after service?

Gentlemen, I am old enough to not irritate (much) unless I wish to, but often the incompetence is so gross that a blind man with a straitjacket on would be hard pressed to miss it. A brief example. I took a car to an independent tyre shop for a wheel alignment check. They had a...

Boiler left unsafe and leaking fumes after service?

Motco's Law of Universal Incompetence: "Always assume that the professional person, service operative, tradesperson, artisan, or other individual with whom you are dealing is incompetent unless, and until, they demonstrate to the contrary" Follow this rule and you will rarely be disappointed...

I need a deeper towel rail to straddle a vertical radiator

That would do nicely. If the removal of the rearmost rail doesn't leave an unsightly witness mark I may well do that. I'm due to be near the shop on Thursday so I'll go and look. Thanks again.

I need a deeper towel rail to straddle a vertical radiator

Thanks Andy. That wouldn't span the rad as it stands because the rear rail isn't 100mm off the wall but I could remove the back rail and then it would. It is certainly worth a look. We have a Bath Store branch locally - I'll pay them a visit.

I need a deeper towel rail to straddle a vertical radiator

I have a vertical panel radiator in my bathroom and I need a towel rail to mount across it so the towels hang in front of it. This is the rad:- https://www.bathroomtakeaway.co.uk/norden-radiator-1600-x-480-white-single.html A conventional chrome single rail would be fine but it has to be deep...

    Anti-vandal outdoor cable protectors

I realise that this thread is ancient but the need for anti-theft protection for cables and pipes is very current. This company http://jmlhardware.co.uk/security-products/galvanised_pipe_protectors-html/ supplies exactly what is needed for many applications. I am a director of a management...

    Heat pump

There's clearly a few people on here who know a fair amount about ground source heat pumps (and air source) and the received wisdom seems to be that retro-fitting GSHP to an existing property is only possible if you can either install underfloor heating using water, or larger radiators (double...

What is this on the filling loop?

Okay chaps, thanks to all. I shall leave it in situ but try to tidy up the appearance. :?

What is this on the filling loop?

Ah! That might explain it because it is under contract maintenance by Homeserve, and there was a breakdown not long ago. Perhaps this is what they do as a 'quick fix'? Thanks. :o

What is this on the filling loop?

Bleedin' typical! Fit an unauthorised component with no care for doing a proper job. Thanks for that feedback. What's it's function, is it to extend the time between re-pressurising? If so that implies a leak somewhere. Is it worth Ebaying?

What is this on the filling loop?

This is on the filling loop of a house that has been let for 18 months and has now been vacated. It wasn't there before - I assume it's a pressure vessel to augment the internal one in the combi boiler, but I haven't seen one before and Google has let me down.

    Vaillant Ecomax - good choice?

Thanks Chris, I hadn't looked at the Vaillant site for a week or so and it has changed in that time. Does this mean that the Glow Worm equivalent to the EcoMax has been superceded too - the HXI ?

    Vaillant Ecomax - good choice?

Bumped because I inadvertantly broke a forum rule and my posting didn't make sense when separated from the thread it was in.

    Vaillant Ecomax - good choice?

I'm intending to replace my aged Potterton C40/12 with a Vaillant Ecomax Pro18E soon. Is this a choice any of you would endorse? :?: :)

    Vaillant Boiler VCW GB 242EH

I have exactly this model and had exactly this problem in my son's flat earlier this year. The cause was (forgive me for any incorrect terminology) the diverter valve that switches the output from domestic hot water to central heating being seized due to hardness salts. A common problem I...

    TRVs - reverse flow?

In my experience older TRVs (Belmont) can knock if reversed. I had an instance where it was loud enough to wake the occupant. :(
