    Creaking Stairs

I think I'll just change for the D4. Im not very good with messy stuff :) I was just taking another look and I tried to hold the riser right where the baton is nailed into it and then I tried moving the baton and it still creaks at the baton so im not sure if the screwing will solve everything...

    Creaking Stairs

Thanks, I bought the second one already. But I might just exchange it for the first one because the gaps aren't big and if the second one requires more care might be easier to use the first.

    Creaking Stairs

That makes a lot of sense. Let me see what I can do. I can see some gaps there so some glue and tightening of the screws should make a difference.

    Creaking Stairs

Hahaha, yes I did. When you say the most important thing is to screw the back of the tread and riser how exactly do you do that? From what I've researched, I need to fill any gaps where they meet and then screw blocks of wood into both. Is this what you mean?

    Creaking Stairs

Thanks. I will glue and screw tomorrow and then see if that helps . One more question if you don't mind. You can see that there are wedges in the picture that have been glued to the tread/riser join. In some videos I saw it says to remove these and replace with long blocks of wood and to...

    Creaking Stairs

Hi, sorry but I didn't understand. Are you saying that if I fill the gaps around the treads then the plank doesn't matter or that the plank should be removed? Just so there's no misunderstanding, the plank is not loose, it's solid. But I can see that the nails would rub against the riser, if...

    Creaking Stairs

Hi All, we just moved into a 1970's property and it has really creaky stairs. I did some research and decided to try glue and screw the gaps between treads and risers. The issue is that all the videos I have seen just show the underside of the stairs with treads and risers, whereas with my...

    Water Mains Upgrade

Hi Fezter, the price i mentioned in my original post was for pipe moling. Its not cheap, at least down my neck of the woods. And it seems its like the wild west. Everyone who quoted me these prices is saying they will join the new pipe to the original pipe that enters our boundary. Rather than...

    Water Mains Upgrade

Haha, I'm not familiar with Thames Water, what's the deal? We're not touching the external valve to the upstream road supply (I had a separate quote for this and it was £1500 for TW to upgrade their pipe). Just from the he stop valve to our property. As far as I am aware, that wouldn't result...

    Water Mains Upgrade

Hi Keithmac, I am for sure! I moved from a low pressure area. It's just that you get so much differing advice from tradesmen, that by the end of it, you don't know where you stand.

Sorry, forgot to add. We are not on a water meter.

    Water Mains Upgrade

Thanks Old and Cold. It's interesting because I've read on these forums about forming contracts and have everything guaranteed, but everyone who I've spoken to in my area pull out all the disclaimers under the sun. Id pay extra to get this guarantee but so far, having got quotes from 7 different...

    Water Mains Upgrade

Hi John D, this is what I thought and was advised by the installers. You are correct, it's after the 15mm so they are planning to come off there at 22mm and into the cylinder. We will run 2 showers simultaneously, on occasion. No baths and showers at same time. I'm realistic about the fact that...

    Water Mains Upgrade

Hi, would appreciate some help please. I've had a look at other posts and am left confused. We are having an unvented cylinder installed in our garage. Currently we have a vented cylinder on 1st floor. The property was extended on ground floor to the rear. When doing this, they buried the water...
