    Cable spec for Rangemaster cooker

Been and consulted the installation manual - oven rating given as 2.9kw (have to assume this is for each of the 2, it was unclear) plus grill of 2.7kw making a total of 8.5kw . Strangely it also states that the unit is supplied fitted with 2m of cable and a 13amp plug! According to my...

    Cable spec for Rangemaster cooker

Thanks Andrew - problem is we don't have the cooker yet, it's being delivered in 2 weeks but the plasterer is coming this week and I need to install conduit and cable before he comes. . . I suppose I can go look for a cooker in a showroom somewhere and grovel on the floor to find the plate...

    Cable spec for Rangemaster cooker

Hi all - Has anyone any idea what current a Rangemaster 1100 dual fuel draws? I've got to install the cable this weekend and can't find the details on the manufacturers website or in the brochure. It has 2 large ovens and a 2 stage grill and will be about 5m from the CU. Is 6mm sufficient...

    Failed capacitor on Grundfos pump?

Chris - thanks, you were right - capacitor dead. I've replaced the pump anyway and the improvement is quite amazing - the whole system is much quieter, the old pump must have really been on it's last legs. I don't think I even need to replace the boiler - no kettling! Yippee!

    Failed capacitor on Grundfos pump?

Conventional vented system, the pump isn't running. I've removed the vent plug and cleaned the debris out - shaft was turning freely. There is power at the pump and I've tried tapping it with a hammer. The only other possibility other than replacing the pump, is that the capacitor has died...

    Rockwool insulation above kitchen ceiling

Kitchen rebuild in 1920 semi - taken old ceiling down (filthiest job in the world) and just finishing rewire and re plumbing before re-boarding with 12.5mm plasterboard. I was wondering about insulation when I saw one of those TV house makeover shows where they were doing a kitchen ceiling and...

Magnetic Door Seal for Shower Bath

You could use the 2 part self adhesive magnetic strip you can get to hold secondary double glazing up. One part is white painted thin steel strip with SA on reverse, (you can cut it with scissors) the other is flexible rubber magnet, again finished in white. They are both about 20mm wide and I...

Gas and water main in same pipe?

Kitchen rebuild in 1920 semi - kitchen floor is solid, rest of ground floor is suspended with 3 foot void below. Current water main is lead and was shared with neighbour, actual route of water main unknown (but under solid floor). Gas main (15mm) routing is currently a nightmare - up,down, all...

    Stainless Steel Tubing

If you want 'chrome' effect the easiest way to achieve this is to use plastic tube of the right diameter and cover it with self adhesive metallised vinyl. You can get this in flat sheets or on rolls in different thicknesses. Your best option is to try your local sign makers - they use vinyls...

    Replacing old lead water main

During current kitchen rebuild I have discovered the existing water main is lead. Original main was shared with our neighbors (1920 semi) with a common stop cock in the pavement outside their gate. This feed ran under their house to the kitchen and then under the solid floor, party wall, and our...

Gas pipe diameter - new regs

Aha - the mud is beginning to clear. Thanks ChrisR - excellent answer that explains a lot. PVM - your plan of fitting a new conventional boiler and see if it's OK and if not rerun the feed in a larger size kind of shoots itself in the foot - if I have to do that then I may as well fit a...

Gas pipe diameter - new regs

Corgiman - I think PVM was referring to my plan to replace the conventional boiler rather than go with a combi. I realise that combis require a lot more gas to provide the throughput of DHW. I think it likely that I'll forego the space benefits rather than go through the horrors of having to...

Gas pipe diameter - new regs

Thanks gents, for your replies. They muddy the waters further. bripl - the take off pipe at the meter is only 22mm dia, and as far as I remember , the yellow HDPE main that BG laid 15 years ago was about the same ID, so it would seem pointless to try to fit 28mm. leafy - if the existing...

Gas pipe diameter - new regs

Is that - no, you can't run the combi from it; or no, you can't run a conventional boiler from it any more. If it's the second then it certainly seems to be 'regs for regs sake'

Gas pipe diameter - new regs

I am thinking of replacing my CH boiler, it's a Glow-worm fuel saver Mk2, 60k btu, Y plan with 9 rads. It's 15 years old and has been regularly serviced, drained, flushed and re- fernoxed every 2 years. Over the past couple of years it's been getting noisy when the heating's on - kettling...
