    Bulbs constantly blowing

Your post 'got in' before mine FWL! sorry if I've repeated any of your comments. When I say the entire building, I am referring to each ‘floor’, which has its own electrical supply in you case.

    Bulbs constantly blowing

High Voltage is 99% of the time down to the supply company. Ask them to test it for you but ensure that they install a meter that will record the readings over a week or two, not just a once off measurement. If the building is suffering from high voltage, then the entire building will be...

    Bulbs constantly blowing

Another point to consider would be high voltage, however it would have to be significantly above the standard (222VAC - 244VAC) to be the cause of your problems. Are you running any other electrical equipment in the building?

    Emergency Services

When about 68% (in ireland) of 999 / 112 calls are made through mobile phones, the area code could not be relied upon. Obviously it is assumed that the call is being made from the country in which the emergency is present. The point I'm making is that if it is quicker for a fire crew to come...

    A question.

Well that's a good question. I myself am a qualified electrician, but cannot speak for anybody else. I would say that a lot of the posts here are by non-qualified personal (perhaps I'm wrong) with several exceptions. To be honest, if it wasn't for the job I'm in at the moment I would probably...

    Computer Monitor

much higher, about 5000V. You may be wondering why this dosn't kill you, heres why: It is current which kills, not voltage however the voltage has to be there to 'drive' the current through your body. The electric fence runs at a high voltage but very low current.

oven installation, "All Pole Connection Unit???"

In ireland we are guided by ETCI regs. They are basically the same as the iee regs but with extra 'bits' added. Some of it being very complicated and difficult to achieve. The result being that very few new houses (that I have seen) would be fully up to standard.

    Computer Monitor

Yes, the monitor itself is powered by 230V but the tube inside requires somewhere in the region of 28/29kv to operate.

oven installation, "All Pole Connection Unit???"

is the use of the above unit (cooker/socket combined) still premitted in the UK? They are not in ireland due to the fact that the socket should be RCD protected.

    Fire & Electricity

No fire brigade will go near a house with water until the power has been isolated. This is normally done by flicking the main switch inside the door. If this is not possible then the seal is broken and the cut-out removed. In the unlikely event of access to this being a problem the supply...

    500 gallon tank

As I'm living in Ireland these regs may be different. I was consideration installing this cylinder in my 3m X 2m boiler house in the garage (separate 'room' in garage). How does this sound? I believe that in Britain your BCO has to be informed and many other regs have to be adhered to. In...

    500 gallon tank

Thanks for the replies, I am looking into the possibility of installing an unvented hot water cylinder in a new house, (about 2900sqft) with 4 showers. Has anybody any experience of these, what size would I need etc. Just to clarify, this is my own house and due to my very limited knowledge...

oven installation, "All Pole Connection Unit???"

An "all pole disconnect switch" is a switch which will as the name suggests, isolate all (three in your case) poles. This term is normally used in industrial installations where apparatus has to be totally disconnected. In practise a double pole switch is quite sufficient. Although you could...

    Fuse

On a serious tone limla, I think you should take into account what breezer has said, perhaps you could hire an electrician for an hour he will advise you on the entire installation and put right any problems which he comes across. In my house it is a very rare occurrence for a fuse to blow on...
