creating a 'dummy' low pitched roof around a flat roof

I have a hideous looking box built out of the side of my house with a flat roof (two first floor bedrooms). I'd really like to improve the look of this by having a "dummy" pitched roof built around the perimeter of the 'box' and blended back into the existing roof. It wouldn't need to be a...

Yet another question re cost of soffits & fascias

I'd really appreciate an estimate of what I might expect to have to pay for the below or - if it's easier - an idea of how many man-days and a daily rate. The 'ground floor' work is almost DIY, but I'd like a decent job done :) Leicester area (LE10) - detached house with large area of flat...

    Top paint layer peeling.

That's a LOT of work and will never produce a nice smooth painted finish if the problem is widespread and especially if the wall gets an oblique source of light (e.g. is at right-angles to a window). I lived with the increasing annoyance of this for a year until I got the whole damn lot...

Purely cosmetic pitched roof "enhancment" to flat

If your extension is only 3.6m long it should only be a matter of stripping the existing hip and extending the wall plates ect' then batten felt and retile matching into the main roof using existing tiles you would probably have to get second hand tiles to match existing tiles, but as you say...

Purely cosmetic pitched roof "enhancment" to flat

Yes it is actually. It would be a nive elegant looking solution but it sounds REALLY expensive. I'd also be a bit worried about whether the external walls of the "box" were sufficiently robust to take the weight of a tiled roof (or is that just daft, because the Building Regs people would...

Purely cosmetic pitched roof "enhancment" to flat

I'd have to ask a roofer! Which I plan to do. :) It's a hipped (sloping) roof it'd join to - my main roof is like a pyramid - all sides slope to a single point.

Purely cosmetic pitched roof "enhancment" to flat

I'm after the best cosmetic solution at he cheapest price, but obviously long-term maintenance is an issue, so I think it's a question of getting the roofer round! Thanks for all the input.

Dusty plaster skim even after weeks

Same chap did all the work. He did put two coats on, but I don't know what 'type' of plaster he used for both, (although ISTR there were two different types) and he did PVA the walls first. The HSL and the internal walls of the bedrooms are fine, it's only the external walls of the two...

Purely cosmetic pitched roof "enhancment" to flat

Wow! I'm pleased to hear that. Should I just contact a "normal" roofer and explain in the same words what I need, or is there a 'technical term' for what I'm trying to do? Ta muchly

    false ceiling

Sorry to resurrect an old post, hope it isn't frowned on. My dining room, kitchen and utility room all have very high ceilings and sit under a flat roof with about 1/2 inch of fibre glass as insulation! I want to add about 80mm of Celotex-type insulation tight up to the existing ceiling...

Dusty plaster skim even after weeks

We've just had two bedrooms, hall stairs and landing skimmed over old plaster which was a 50yo mess of patches, different levels etc). Done by a FMB member so shouldn't have been a bodge. The walls in question took a LONG time to dry compared to the rest of the work ..... The plaster in...

Purely cosmetic pitched roof "enhancment" to flat

I have an ugly box 2 storey box stuck onto the side of my house. It runs just below the existing hipped roof the depth of the house, water drains back towards the join between the extension and the house into a gulley and away. There is nothing wrong with the flat roof, it's just been...
