    VHS Video eject problem

Hello all I have dug our Sony combined VHS/DVD Surround Sound system out of the loft to play some VHS cassettes to enable recording to DVD. The VHS part has hardly ever been used but now when I put a video in it runs for a count of 15 (seconds?) on the little display and then ejects. I’ve...

    schoolboy error

Hello all I am about to fit a new heater element to my Hotpoint WM63 washing mc. Foolishly I did not make a note of which way around the old one sat in the drum before I removed it, so before I fit the new one can anyone advise? Facing the drum, should the green ceramic terminal be to...

How do you check a door switch?

Hmmmm…. Disconnected heater yesterday, switched on and it didn’t trip… so I thought it was solved. This morning I reconnected the heater to repeat the test before ordering a heater element… and it didn’t trip. With the lid and front off I took the opportunity to rock the drum quite violently...

Ok... had a chance to have a decent look at it..... First of all I removed the wet washing and drained out the standing water. Closed the door switched it on and amazingly it all worked fine and completed the recycle. So I put wet washing back in (heavy), reset to a new program, switched...

How do you check a door switch?

Hello I have a Hotpoint Aquarius 1100 washing machine that has stopped mid cycle, just prior to the spin and is tripping the RCD. I understand that the likely culprits on this model are heating element blown, door switch failure or chaffing loom. I can check for chafing looms and blown...

    Dimming LV garden lighting

[quote If this is a plug in transformer, how do you plan to put a dimmer in-between the transformer and the supply? It's not a plug in transformer per se.... it's a transformer with a flying lead and a 3 pin plug..... with an output to the ELV lights. But anyway......I'll just experiment...

    Dimming LV garden lighting

Thanks for the replies... Yes, the lights are 12V so that makes them ELV. The transformer is mounted inside the garage (ie it's not IP rated for outdoor use). the bulbs are 35W Halogen. Is there a way of telling if the transformer is dimable? thanks!

washing machine causes RCD to trip

Hotpoint guy came today, first thing he did was check the socket with a "socket and see" device and pronounced a neutral fault in the socket and promptly went on his way!! I changed the socket ... restarted the machine that caused the whole ring main to drop out, but the RCCD and MCB didnt...

washing machine causes RCD to trip

Thanks for the replies. For speed I decided to call out the local repairer. He checked the element and declared it OK… and diagnosed a main control board fault, but advised he couldn’t fix it as it would require some sort of reset that only Hotpoint engineers have…… so now I have ended up...

washing machine causes RCD to trip

Hi We have a Hotpoint Ultima WT 761 washing machine that causes the RCD to trip within seconds of being switched on. No fuses blow and I haven’t seen any fault codes. It’s about 4 years old I have done some googling and believe this may be cased by the heating element on its way out...
