    Electric shower query

I always use the top heat setting; at this time of year I usually set the dial to 6 (max 10), and flow reduces noticeably in comparison to the 4 setting on the dial that I normally use in the summer. Incoming fuse is 60 amp, which is not ideal. However, my small 2-bed bungalow doesn't...

    Electric shower query

I have a 9.5kW Triton shower connected to a dedicated CU (50 amp MCB and RCD) with 10 mm twin and earth via a 50 amp isolating switch. The flow was pretty reasonable in the warmer months, but now that water temperatures have dropped, the flow is not as good as I was hoping. Hence, I'm thinking...

    Recommendations

Out of curiosity, I invited an Anglian rep to give me a quote for new soffits, fascia and guttering for my semi-detached bungalow (front and side elevations only, as have lean-to conservatory at back). The quote was a laughable £2995!! Needless to say I told him thanks, but no thanks I'm...

    light

I'm only an amateur sparky, but I think it best you run the cable to the security light from a lighting circuit junction box in the roof void.

    Shower Tripping!

Perhaps these elecromagnetic water conditioners work are a con, or maybe they work in some systems and don't work at all in others. I think I'll assume the latter and also assume that it wouldn't work well in my hot water system, hence saving me the expenditure.

    New Light

It ****es me off that light manufacturers don't include a loop-in switch terminal system (as found in ceiling roses) in their units. Rather than putting a terminal block in the new light to accept the non-switch live wires, I would put a junction box in the loft and run a single cable to the...

    Shower Tripping!

Hmmm, this device looks interesting and appears to work, assuming the testimonials are genuine. Thanks for making me aware of it, masona - might buy one early next year if funds allow. Anybody have any experience of the Scalewatcher?

    Shower Tripping!

On the subject of electric showers becoming furred up with limescale in hard water areas, I was told that running cold water through the unit after each shower can reduce scale accumulation in the element and shower head, since limescale forms more readily in hot conditions. I've only had my...

Ceiling rose & pendant to tracker and spots

Leaving the rose in place is undesirable/impractical if the new light unit is designed to be fitted directly to the ceiling; the housing may not be large enough to accomodate the rose. If this is the case, I would suggest putting a standard junction box (as used for old-fashioned non-loop-in...

    lighting circuits type

Yes is the answer, although I'm no sparky and unqualified to give advice. I recently installed a flush ceiling light in my gf's flat having never done such a thing before. Her lighting circuit is loop-in type (as I discovered when I found 4 cables wired into the ceiling rose ), but the...

    shower installation

Thanks for your welcome, masona. This forum looks to be an excellent source of help and ideas. I can't disagree with your point - you need to be absolutely sure of what you're doing before taking on any electrical DIY task; any doubts, then an electrician should be called in. My point...

    shower installation

I fitted an electric shower recently with no prior experience of electrics or plumbing, but I did a lot of research before taking on the job. You can save hundreds of pounds doing it yourself, but you must ensure the installation is done safely to IEE regs. There's loads of info available on...

Help Wiring A Light Fitting Needed

Absolutely. In my limited experience of fitting lights, I have yet to encounter lights having connections suitable for loop-in switch systems. With the 2 lights I have fitted so far, I have had to resort to putting a junction box in the roof void in order to have the required single cable...
