Replacing old Boiler - some questions...

Hello, I have a couple of questions on replacing an old boiler for a new combi in a 2 bed RENTED flat (5 rads) 1) Approx cost? quoted around £2500 for removing old HW cylinder/CW tank, boiler, powerflush and replacing with a Worcester 25si boiler (no rads changed). Is this about right cost...

Help it's freezing !!! - Ignition (Spark) Generator failed??

Great thanks for the replies...as I suspected it shouldn't carry on sparking then- seemed weird. So I'm assuming to check why this is happening is a lid off the boiler by Corgi Eng rather than the pull out cover below only to get to the spark gen and PCB etc which I'm capable off? Wondering...

Help it's freezing !!! - Ignition (Spark) Generator failed??

Just wondered if anyone could help re my question above re my Netaheat 16-22 bolier 1) Should the spark generator by "clicking" the entire duration when the boiler is on "full burn" ie on. It goes off when boiler auto stops - then starts again when boiler refires up..is this normal? 2) How...

Help it's freezing !!! - Ignition (Spark) Generator failed??

Hey just to say that I bought a new Spark Gen for the netaheat 16-22 from a local heating supplier and hey presto it works. So yet again it was the Spark Gen - this is now the 4th I think in about 8 years. As I suspected it was easy to remove - 2 screws holding it in place and 3 push/pull clips...

Help it's freezing !!! - Ignition (Spark) Generator failed??

Ok some progress, I took the plunge! I flicked the isolating electric switch next to the HW/CH control panel which went off. I'm hoping this was for the boiler too! Anyhow, I unscrewed 2 screws holding the the spark generator and pulled out the 3 connecting leads , so simple enough to replace...

Help it's freezing !!! - Ignition (Spark) Generator failed??

CorgiGazza and Stan, thanks for the replies. There is no pilot light on but I think it only lights when you turn on heating with the initial loud click (what is that by the way)? Or am I wrong ??? Should the pilot light be only all the time with a Netaheat 16-22 regardless of the spark...

Help it's freezing !!! - Ignition (Spark) Generator failed??

Hey Folks, I have a Potterton Netaheat 16-22 MKIIF Boiler that failed a number of times in prev years - all cases was the spark generator which were replaced by Boiler engineers. Have a feeling they were reconditioned which caused them to fail almost every yr! Boiler is not igniting today...

Bathroom thumbturn / release required but very confused!

Thanks for the link, so it sounds like I will need to replace the lock mechanism inside the door not just put a thumb turn release handle on it's own? Something with 2 bolts like : http://www.saundersonsecurity.co.uk/acatalog/Legge_Bathroom_Locks.html

Bathroom thumbturn / release required but very confused!

Freddy, I am the landlord and have been asked to change the lock for safety reasons before being able to rent out to the council, ie so some child doesn't get locked in the bathroom inadvertently - standard for rental properties I believe.

Bathroom thumbturn / release required but very confused!

I have a flat that I am planning on renting and been told that I have to change my bathroom lock to a thumbturn / release for safety reasons - fine. The door simply has a bathroom mortice lock (like http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/159308) with door knob on either side so doesn't actually lock. It...

Irrigation for my Garden at under £30-40?

Not quite sure what you mean by proprietary system? but I haven't got a quote as such from any company or any specific system etc - I dont think this would be anything like £50 - will it? Im just a little confused as you what exactly the best option for hoses. Should I use a "sprinkler hose"...

Should I be paying this much for Laminate or is it labour?

I ended up getting a flooring company locally to do it. 1 fitter took roughly 2 days to do this and I don't think a landing/hall way is the kind of think I would do - unless you're pretty experienced! Instead of cutting the scotia and trying to fit it round the door posts which never look...

Irrigation for my Garden at under £30-40?

Hey, I find this forum great for other topics but my first garden "post" ;o) We have around a 70ft x 30 ft garden with mature shrubs on all edges etc. I've spent far too long standing outside watering it over the year so .... What is the cheapest, best and easiest watering system I could...

Should I be paying this much for Laminate or is it labour?

Skirting is white - or off white more - but does it make that much difference? I plucked up the courage to ask why a 2.4m strip of scotia cost £16.95 and was told it's £6.95 for the scotia and £10 to fit each strip! - even though the labour charge of £300 was given separately - hmmm. And why...

Should I be paying this much for Laminate or is it labour?

Well this site is called DIYNOT! I do attempt some simple things like painting and decor and bit of plumbing etc but finishing and cutting the wood round tricky door frames worries me a bit. After all getting an expensive wood floor with a bad finish is worse than getting a cheap floor with a...

Should I be paying this much for Laminate or is it labour?

ok firstly my room is actually downstairs hallway and cloakroom so yes 9.1 sq m + wastage approx 10 sqm. So local chap came round, recommends and fits Pergo (best one he says, invented laminate ???, 50 yrd Guar. etc etc). Quoted £300 inc VAT for laying it - so better than the £500 prev I had...

Should I be paying this much for Laminate or is it labour?

Well this certainly throws the cat amongst the pidgeons. So I was right to question the £875 quote then I guess for - what I've now been told by another fitter using an electronic measuring devide is actually 9.07 sq m. So even with the £175 per day (discussion still on going ;o)) this should...

Should I be paying this much for Laminate or is it labour?

Thanks Big-all - good advise - hadn't thought about that so certainly worth factoring in fitters having to come back etc. Finally, as the laminate will go into the downstairs toilet - we don't want to uplift the toilet (as some suggested) as I don't think these things ever sit back properly...

Should I be paying this much for Laminate or is it labour?

Yup well thanks for confirming unless of course I got the Quikstep pricing wrong? Anyone confirm that 11 m Sq + 1m sq for wastage so say 12 m sq is approx £300 with the trimmings (eg beading, underlay, roses etc) Thanks for everyones help - this forum is sooooo good and long may it continue.

Should I be paying this much for Laminate or is it labour?

Well I factored in an underlay and beading, rose fittings for pipes and even sealant etc etc and it still only cam to under £300 for 9.5mm QuickStep. As its a hallway it's fiddly I'm told and not a big open place area but still if that's what you paid I think I'm being ripped off somewhat...
