Radiators heating up randomly - newly installed system help!

UPDATE! So after posting this I read some other posts of sticking TRVs and I may have fixed the first part of my problem... I didn't think the TRVs could be the problem initially - seeing as they are only 4 months old and were all working fine up until last weekend.... However as a test...

Radiators heating up randomly - newly installed system help!

Hi My central heating developed a problem over the weekend (always happens on the coldest day of the year!) - I have been attempting to get hold of the engineer who installed it but no joy so far so thought I would seek advice on here.. Background.... I bought a 1920s house earlier in the...

    Decking - the basics...

Thanks, the guy is back in tomorrow so I'll have a word with him then. Like I say I'm no expert but just from looking at the materials I had my doubts straight away.

    Decking - the basics...

Hi I am having some landscaping done in my garden (paying a landscaper to do this) which includes a small slightly raised 3m x 3m decked area. I have some questions over the materials being used and the way in which the decking is being constructed - please bear with me as I'm not familiar...

Oil tank - distance from 'fire rated' metal motorbike garage

Thanks for your reply. I know if you have a fire barrier then the distance can be reduced to 100mm - but I wasn't sure whether the same applied to a fire rated building. I have emailed oftec to confirm - I know it's unlikely but I don't fancy laying the base and bolting down the bike garage in...

Oil tank - distance from 'fire rated' metal motorbike garage

Hi I am looking to install a metal motorbike garage and the best location for me would be near my oil tank. However I can't seem to confirm what separation distance is required between my oil tank and a fire rated motorbike garage. The garage in question is below, which states: Fire...

    Woodlice and flooring question....

The boards themselves are level, it's just the gaps between the boards I was going to try and do something about. Regards Robin

    Woodlice and flooring question....

I agree - I'm not expecting to keep all the bugs out, but I'm more concerned that I have many more gaps following the rewire / plumbing (where previously the boards were nicely slotted together) The rotten joists are sorted now. Ventilation wise, I can't see adding tape over the biggest gaps...

    Woodlice and flooring question....

Thanks - I know I specifically mentioned woodlice but I guess it's any bugs in general that I wanted to minimise getting through the floorboards, house is in a rural area with a lot more bugs that in used to in my previous home!!

    Woodlice and flooring question....

Hi All I'm seeking some advice or at least confirmation that what I'm thinking about doing is sensible I don't have a woodlice problem as such, however I am trying to be preventative - particularly before I have all my carpets laid! I am nearing the end of 4 months spent renovating my...

Oil tank - distance from building using fire protection?

Thanks everyone. I will discuss options with the installer on Friday - I dropped him an email and he said he has used 60 minute fire retardant boards in the past.

Oil tank - distance from building using fire protection?

Cheapest internet price for a comparable sizes Tuffa tank is £1940 vs £1300 for the standard Bunded tank I have been quoted for. Question is would a fire battier cost less than £640 to construct...

Oil tank - distance from building using fire protection?

Thanks - yes I has seen that whilst I was researching fire protection. I couldn't see any prices but will look into this to see how they compare to the current Bunded tank I have been quoted for. Thanks Robin

Oil tank - distance from building using fire protection?

I have (or had) an oftec engineer booked until he went out of business - in the process of getting another lined up. I'm trying to plan other things around the property and want to know how much space I have - hence the question. Can't find any answers on the Internet

Oil tank - distance from building using fire protection?

Hi I need to have a new tank installed at a property I have bought, the current one is an old steel tank. Current location is right next to my neighbours garage. If I go by the letter of Oftec, they state the new tank would have to be 1.8m from my neighbours garage. This would put the new...

Thanks roughcaster - I think it's that too. Plasterer is back at the end of the week so will sort it then. :)

Crack in newly plastered wall above window...

Here are some photos. A close up and far away internal shot to give you an idea - this happened a week after plastering. I've included an external photo - difficult to make out the crack. but its higher up the wall (a foot or so, roughly in the middle) than the one inside the property. I...

Crack in newly plastered wall above window...

Hi I don't think he plaster boarded where the crack is, but from memory it was around the area where the old plaster finished. The area above the crack seems dry and below was still drying - I'm guessing perhaps the bond between the two wasn't very strong. As for why it's actually cracked...

Crack in newly plastered wall above window...

Thanks for your advice Roy. I'll take a look outside the house today - it's cement rendered and painted, so I'm not sure if that makes it harder or easier to spot cracks. The floor boards are a little deceiving at the moment - I had the place rewired do but the sparky didn't screw all the...

Crack in newly plastered wall above window...

Hi all, I'm in the process of having a 1920s semi renovated. The plasterer is currently working his way through the house. A week ago I had the lounge plastered. I had pulled off all the loose plaster, and it has been filled where needed to the original plaster and then the whole room...
