    Solar Power PIR External Light.

I'd like an external light powered by Solar power with a PIR switch. I'd like 12m range. Does the PIR draw much juice? If I do find a solution with decent PIR range will I find it won't light up towards the end of a long winter night? TIA.

    Cooker Stability Chain

Do regs require stability chains/brackets on free standing cookers or is it just good practice? TIA.

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

Good or bad, he must think it's good for his business, and it gave me some peace of mind. Anyway, I asked why check a trade is bad. Now I know.

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

I worked as his labourer when he/we replaced my central heating. I'm surprised he only went as far as Scotland. :)

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

Yup, but the fact I knew I'd have a lever to get him back to sort out any mistakes was one reason why he got the job. Of course. Not everyone has that, though. I didn't. The only Gas engineer I've had dealings with moved to Scotland. Meanwhile I've moved too.

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

I don't think anyone's under any illusions about that. As far as I was concerned all a decent C-a-T rating meant was that they treated people's houses with respect and turned up when they said they would. I've always thought the firms got a bit of a harsh deal out of it but the firms we hired...

Is Check-a-Trade bad, then? (From a customer point of view.)

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

Thanks IronNaz. :-) Incredibly, given the responses, I didn't actually mention the price for the job, or even hint at it. Best of luck. From the lead times I've been waiting over the last year there's plenty of work around for the right people.

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

Righto. (Mind you, a Gas Engineer must have put the 'incorrect' washer in the old pipe.) I have no idea. IME tradesmen set the payment terms, not the customer. Over the last year I've had a ton of work done by a load of people & the majority seem to prefer to be paid direct into their...

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

If you're not supposed to use washers on BSP 'joins' then I can't see how the lack of one caused a gas explosion.

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

Cooker manual says Rp, internet says that's parallel, not tapered. Or are the parallel ones still slightly tapered?

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

Thanks Tony, looks like "no washer" is correct. I guess the previous installer shouldn't have put a washer in, but that would be many years ago & long before my ownership. Excellent news.

    Urgent: Gas Cooker Installation Question.

Great, the cooker end is a screwed connection, so no washer is right. Panic over. I've only got access to the old one which is something like this: http://www.screwfix.com/p/standard-ng-lpg-cooker-hose-4-1-2m/49514?cm_sp=Search-_-SearchRec-_-Area2&_requestid=1620956 Trust, but verify.
