Well - what good service Mr Corgi called around after work to have a look - diagnosed sticking motorised valve. This explains the historic problems too with kettling and low flow with the old boiler. He's coming back on Weds to fix. Thanks for all your help from here - you never let me...

Partly cold house - help please gurus

Thanks for comments - yes I plan to get the CORGI man back - and he's a really good guy too - it's just that this was an inherent problem before he came along and I hoped what he did would have fixed it. Not sure if there is a weather comp...there is a bypass valve (that was fitted last year)...

    wood / log burners

I'm with oilman - clear view stoves are excellent - not the cheapest but definitley best value and the icing on the cake is they are made in England. They comply with smokeless zones too You can also add a heat exchanger subsequently if you want to power your central heating. I...

    Which conduit/trunking to use?

I'm no expert but I'm having a build done at the moment...and the electrician is just tacking the wires to the blocks and then plasterboard will be fixed on top - no other protection. I'm sure I've read elsewhere that this is fine by the regs.

Mouldy 'Marley' floor tiles under carpet

Yes - you are right in your assumption of a concrete floor. The concrete floor seems in reasonable condition although a few of the marley tiles have cracked/come away - but not to any great extent. The mould isn't rife but the room always did niff a bit. Thanks for suggestions...there...

Mouldy 'Marley' floor tiles under carpet

Hi I'm in the process of re-doing a downstairs bedroom in our 1960s chalet. The room has always smelt a bit (blamed it on the previous elderly occupiers). I took the carpet up and noticed a thin covering on mould on the 'Marley' style floor tiles underneath. Should I remove the floor...
