^^ Aye - that helps a lot - thanks for posting. I did say I'd order a couple of flush contacts, but in fact I can only order one as the front door (unlike the back) is open to the elements so I'll stick with the [brown] usual contacts. The resistors don't look too untidy there to be...

Many thanks Pcaouolte - I've sent them a missive - just hope they agree to waive the return cost back, otherwise my other orders will go elsewhere (and to be fair, they have a very good reputation as a company). I'll order some flush contacts then. Virgilns - a pic would be great - cheers.

Resistors...doable though? I did solder one of my kids toy trains last week....tiniest bit of solderingon frankly rubbish electronics :). Point being, I'm fairly dextrous but do you reckon I'll end up flinging the flush contacts through the front door!! Ah - PC - Com looks like a better...

Cheers pacaouolte - I agree - I was going to purchase the brown block contacts (as the front door is the same) but I'll look into the flush versions - these: http://www.alertelectrical.com/prod/1224/flush-mounting-burglar-alarm-contact-brown And by the looks of them, they seem to be the...

[/url] £13 sounds good...although Maplin are usually far more expensive for many items. Not quite sure what exactly the cable is made up of, but I'll take a look this evening. Many thanks.

Hi - apologies - been a busy weekend. Ok - this is the original route for the cable to the back door contact. It's neither here nor there routing the cable either side of the door (door was put in last year and I still need to 'make good' around it anyway. The door had to open...

Btw - the 3ah battery - the cheapest postage option to send it back was only a little less than the battery cost itself (they're fairly heavy!). I can't claim the delivery back as the battery isn't at fault. I'll keep this for the time being and upgrade in the future to the 7ah.

I hope it helps - there should be enough info on this thread to make life a heck of a lot easier when you carry your own install out. Glad I persevered, as it was a little daunting. We did contact an engineer when we moved in last year, but he mucked us around a bit (that was for a wireless...

That potential banana skin turned out to be anything but then. That option works beautifully - I've placed the magnet and contact in the top of the frame and groove in the top of the door, and there couldn't be a better fit. I've not fixed them or wired yet, but slotted them in and made sure...

I phoned alert electrical and they'll happily replace the battery for the 7ah - there's a price difference of about a quid, so no brainer really (erm, not forgetting the return postage!). Another potential banana skin however: Noticed the french doors are a bit of a conundrum. The centre bar...

Ah - it's not that clear in the online manual (for the texecom premier 24), at least the pictorial element (which states 1 x 7ah, 2 x 7ah or 1 x 17h). However, further on it does indeed refer to the metal housing. They do supply this kit with the 3ah battery as standard, so I'll see what the...

Cheers. It's not so much the panel (although it's pleasing to find out I can pick up filters) but the short run of alarm cables directly past the CU - pretty much the only place I couldn't divert or shift the six core given the space you have to contend with. Many thanks.

The battery is the one supplied with the Premier 24 kit from alert electrical, but the manual does indeed recommend the one's you mentioned. I didn't really pay much attention to the 'ah' in battery terminology...but it's quite obvious now! I'll see if I can return it and upgrade it...

Few hours!! The battery, by the way, is a 3.4ah 12v... Will definitely look into the Com IP - makes sense as most of the house will have ethernet points in each nook and cranny...I'm hoping the next gen fridges can indeed 'self order' via the internet when stocks of fine ale is...

Cheers pcaouolte. Consulting the Texecom manual (as different manufacturers suggest different options) it's perhaps slightly vague: FCU being an example rather than a rule, and the nearby (at arms length in this case) MCB is indeed a 'readily accessible disconnection device'. It's a 17 way...

The panel is fixed below the consumer unit (by around 12 inches) and will be boxed off/placed in cabinet above a cloak cupboard. The cable will more than likely flush with the wall then plastered over - fairly certain it will be done this way. Hadn't considered flex to be fair, but then again...

I didn't pick up on the Aux/Fault connection (is this used in general to monitor power supplies?). So, literally use a cut off single wire from the six core and link these two contacts together? Would it regisiter as a fault//tamper if these two were not connected? Good advice on the...

Quick pic...and that's probably it for a while :) I'll be fitting this around other stuff so might take some time to fully install. I suspect I'll get one or two headaches when it's time to program, but at least the install (thankfully) should go to plan now. Had one or two practice runs...

Fantastic. I did read a few things about the mobile services being a little patchy (numbers changing etc), so will look into other options. Like the sound of the Com-IP, but I'll leave that for the future (the network isn't fully set up yet...250 metres CAT6 currently going in)...

Excellent - thanks. Will order the dual tech one towards the end of the week. I've quite easily digested your great advice on here (and it is often very difficult to get advice across succesfully on the internet)...I'm struggling on this last bit however: Drop spare six core in RKP -...
