    RCD tripped - sockets issue?

There are two sockets, two flori lights and a garage lamp on the outside - given it's state, entirely possible damp has affected the circuit. However, the garage circuit is working fine (I'm having to use the socket in there to extend to the fridge freezer in the kitchen - at least we have a...

    RCD tripped - sockets issue?

Yes, it has been a little wet of late :) Garage feed - possible this could get damp (garage is on it's last legs but will be coming down in time. Outdoor light attached to garage also. The garage feed and boiler are both on separate circuits (with own mcb) and both of these are ok. Just...

    RCD tripped - sockets issue?

Checking each socket - two so far seem ok - if it's a faulty socket/switch (feasible?) would it be a case of wiring a new one to each point (using same one) and eliminating that solution? Initially thought it was a cheap fleabay iPod charger my daughter was using - seems to get 'stuck' within...

    RCD tripped - sockets issue?

Thanks Chris - yes unplugged every device, but it still trips (doesn't stay on). Will check the sockets for issues now. Cheers.

    RCD tripped - sockets issue?

Hi, The mains went off this morning whilst my kids were having breakfast (and watching the tweenies). Thought one of the mcb's had tripped, but it turned out the RCD had switched off. Isolating the problem, it only affects the mains sockets - with the sockets mcb off, the RCD will happily...

    Internal window ledge replacement?

Sorry to dreg this post up from the recent past...but just an update. I've taken a bit of the pvc covering off the ledge, and it looks like the orginal sills are in place. I'm happy pulling the rest of the PVC off (it looks at best grim) and then taking the sills out - guaranteed quite a bit...

    Rendered 'retaining' wall.

Hi all. We've just had a good dozen trees removed by local tree surgeons to the side of the semi-detached house we've recently moved in to. The majority were to the size of the house (30 odd foot sycamore, ash) whilst 4/5 were at the back of the property. Behind the boundary fence is a...

    Concrete asbestos garage roof.

That's a fine idea. I'll purchase a fair amount of that polyphene sheeting. The only tricky bit is the front and back panel - this is the thinner, straight material and is nailed into the roof frame in the garage. I may cut the wood it is attached to inside (if I can do that) and leave it...

    Concrete asbestos garage roof.

Yes - a bin liner (the 50 litre ones) would probably cover about half so I would have to get two per panel, unless I can order larger ones (not at that stage yet). I've shown a few pics of the roof at the local refuge depot and they were pretty sure it was the 'less dangerous' abestos. They...

    Concrete asbestos garage roof.

Was hoping I didn't have to break any and I could get larger bags! Are those front/back panels the same type of asbestos as the corrugated roof? Do I need to go all out on a mask (thinking of microscopic fibres penetrating less 'rated' masks)? I'm possibly being a little bit *over...

    Concrete asbestos garage roof.

Hi all (and apologies for yet another asbestos garage roof thread!). I have a garage to the rear of the house which is in the process of being removed. The walls are made from panelled concrete and the roof is concrete asbestos (we used to have this in our garage ceiling when I was growing...

    Satin or Sandblasted glass?

They had the satin in stock (so I presume they toughen it themselves). Was tricky to sort out time for sample viewings, so went for the sandblasted - will take a couple of weeks, but the doors haven't been ordered yet. Cheers.

    Satin or Sandblasted glass?

Hi, Currently in liason with my joiner about the type of glass I'd like in the front door (D/G). Narrowed it down to the sandblasted/etched glass which we (me and the missus) prefer. Joiner has spoken with his glass supplier and mentioned the sandblasted is slightly more expensive and has a...

Changing 2 gang light switch to 3 gang and adding new light.

Cheers Taylor. That makes complete sense now...as I mentioned in the other reply, surprised nobody else mentioned this method - junction box was suggested (although, to be fair, they hadn't looked into as much as mentioned on this thread). Clearly no need (in this situation) for the junciton...

Changing 2 gang light switch to 3 gang and adding new light.

Hi Ban. Apologies - didn't see your reply before I posted my reply to Taylor and then duly logged out of the ether... I think, perhaps due to lackadaisical dialougue on my behalf, I may have led some to believe I have a pack of Aldi screwdrivers, some old coathangers and duct tape and I'm...

Changing 2 gang light switch to 3 gang and adding new light.

Essentially, this is the same as using the junction box...hence no need to use one (plus the ceiling rose is accessible)...for the time being - I'll be getting rid of any existing roses (there are only a few left) when I change to inset spot lights (presume I won't use a junction box in that...

Changing 2 gang light switch to 3 gang and adding new light.

Thanks for getting back so quickly Taylor. Correct. I probably didn't make it clear enough in my op (I tend to waffle). The first two pics are the hall light (box and plate). The second two the landing light (seperate 'upstairs circuit). The hall light switch controls the hall and...

Changing 2 gang light switch to 3 gang and adding new light.

We recently moved into a an oldish property (approx 1950) and it needs a fair bit of work. Fortunately (as we are a family of five - 3 young children) it was an ok state (lining paper on every wall to give the impression all was ok!). The electrics (compared to some of the places we viewed)...

    Blinds headrail pelmet fit.

I won't be fixing them with the velcro - I have these clips which I'll screw into the top/back of the pelmet and hang these from the headrail, which means the pelmet can be moved left and right..but I see your point...I think even with these clips I'll struggle to fit them exactly...?!? Cheers.

    Blinds headrail pelmet fit.

Apologies for the bump...but has anyone ever fitted headrail pelmets on bay windows? I can probably just about get away with fitting them together without cutting - it won't be at all seamless and will have a gap on the curve but they'll hide the headrail. I'm struggling how I would go about...
