    Coving mitre query

I have ordered Pro-cove Lite polymer coving. It is 82 mm x 82 mm. When I look for a mitre box or tool for coving they seem to be for other sizes. Would I be able to use a mitre box or tool for, say, 127 mm coving to cut something smaller or does it need to be for the exact size? Thanks, S

    Radiator

This is happening even after the heating system has been on for a while. I'm not entirely clear if you are saying uneven temperature distribution is normal or not? I was under the impression it wasn't normal, but I'm happy to be corrected. Thanks

    Radiator

I thought all parts of a radiator should be the same temperature.

    Radiator

Sorry, I think I've given you the wrong impression. I'm not actually the plumber just the guy who'd hired the plumber. Thanks for your help and apologies again.

    Radiator

I forgot to say that we tried this - it did make the radiator hotter but the top was still noticeably hotter than the bottom.

    Radiator

Hi, I have just had the old radiator removed and a replacement installed in a new position in the living room. New radiator is not fully hot - the section near the bottom is not as hot as the rest. The new radiator is a type 22 with a BTU of 6800. The old radiator was type 21 with BTU of about...

A friend sent me these photos last week of the dry verge system in a new roof installation. Does it look OK?

Venetian blinds and uPVC window surround

Advice sought. We are putting Venetian blinds up on kitchen window. The surround is uPVC. The wall is completely hollow , so a normal rawlplug won't work. Anyone know if those "hollow wall fixings" used for fixing things to plasterboard would work? I'm not sure if the uPVC will be strong enough...

    Brown powder on concrete floor

I have removed a built-in cupboard in my house (ex-local authority, built late 1940s). The floor is covered in a soot-like brown powder/dust type of substance.. The floor is concrete with vinyl thermoplastic tiles on top. However, there are not tiles underneath the cupboard. Can anyone advise...

    Thinking of converting loft

I'm considering having my loft converted. The roof has quite a high pitch. Part of the roof sticks out from the main roof - it sort of looks like a huge dormer window - but it's not really accessible when you are in the loft because there are lots of beams or trusses in it. I'd just like some...

Loft insulation - what is it?

Thanks for this, newboy - it's certainly one of the things I was concerned about. I had, though, come round to thinking that if the words 'FI' and 'GLASS' seem to be written on the bags then that does strongly suggest that it will be fibreglass - what do you think?

I've managed to unearth a bit more and the word 'GLASS' is definitely there!

Loft insulation - what is it?

JohnD, I tried burning a sample with a match and, to be honest, not a lot happened. It didn't really catch fire, though a little bit went a grayish colour.

Loft insulation - what is it?

Thank you for your reply - I've also noticed the letters 'FI....' on another bag (but I can't see what comes after that). The insulation will have been up there for at least 20 years, could be much longer. Obviously, I'm just concerned it's not something dangerous like asbestos.

Loft insulation - what is it?

Hi, I found what I take to be insulation material in my loft. It's a white material in long threads. Looks like it was originally in black paper bags (marked ASS and I can also see 'FI...' written on another part of a bag). Anybody know what the material might be? Thanks.
