    Faulty gas meter?

Actually yes, they were both identical systems fitted by the same chap at the same. Well one after each other, but I don't think a couple of weeks makes much difference! @Dan their bills are from actual readings just like ours so i think it's a reasonably accurate comparison.

    Faulty gas meter?

Thanks Dan The boiler was serviced last year and is going to be replaced. But when servced it was said to be running pretty much "as per new spec" give or take a little. The usage hasn't gone up since then it's started high and remained at that level - that must point to the meter then?

    Faulty gas meter?

Just a minor correction Tony, I'd like to have a shower capable of putting the out on full whack. Currently it'll pump out 16l/m max, but normal usage is 10-12l/m. I just wanted extra power available for quick, blast clean showers so the option is there. I'm normally out of the shower in...

    Faulty gas meter?

ChrisR, you've kinda lost me there! I was assuming 1 unit is 1 cubic foot because that's what the meter appeared to say. The meter has 4 white and 2 red odometer style numbers and these tally with the numbers quoted as units on the bill - the white ones at least with the red being...

    Faulty gas meter?

Sorry, I thought that covered it. All the reading have been A Actual readings by the meter reading peeps. We record this at the same time and it matches up with the bills. @ Bambergaspipe Hi Bamber, I've reported it to the supplier and paid for a meter test. I'm really just interested to...

    Faulty gas meter?

Answers to those questions: It's actually 29,825 kWh in a year. 81.71 kWh per day and yes, it does seem a lot. Calorific value is 39.0 It's an analogue meter, imperial measurment ft/3 - they are billing us against ft/3, checked that already. 1 unit is 1 cubic ft. The boiler is a...

    Faulty gas meter?

I've recently been researching a new boiler etc and part of the drive is because we got the annual review from our first year in the house recently. The gas bill was massive! I complained the first time we had a bill but they kept fobbing me off with "it all balances itself out over a year" -...

A washing machine a bouncy floor and a concrete slab

Not that expensive really, I hunted around and paid less than retail @ £679 with a 10 year parts and labour warranty. Over the long term, it's not a bad deal at all. We had a Bosch last time and it lasted 7 years which was pretty good but the newer ones aren't built anything like as well...

A washing machine a bouncy floor and a concrete slab

The Miele engineer apparently said to lay it on top of the existing floor and this would cure the problem. Unfortunately I wasn't there and he didn't leave much in detail. While I agree an isolation platform would be the perfect cure, this isn't possible without fairly major structural work...

A washing machine a bouncy floor and a concrete slab

Our washing machine (a Miele) can be felt or heard throught the whole house when on spin. It was fine in our last house on a concrete floor but in this one it seems the wooden floor is more bouncy than normal. We've had Miele out to check the machine and taking it outside onto the driveway...

    Hot Water Tap Outside

Good point, might remove the handle for the hot tap or perhaps just paint it red our children are pretty sensible. Or I could just lock it off inside that's probably a better option.

    Hot Water Tap Outside

Actually, I might do that as I've got to do a new cold tap at some point. Not intending to use any extra hot water, just save myself the beating I get from leaving footprints on the kitchen floor when coming in for a top up mid car wash.

Putting flooring in my loft for heavy storage?

Yes, all sensible suggestions. Floor standard joists are 6x2 I think, 4x2 isn't bad if you're careful. You can do the work yourself, you can lay 6x2's next to the existing joists etc or another of different options depending on layout, where your supporting walls are etc. Something else to...

    MegaFlow versus Range Tribune

 lol, sounds like a big thermos. Thermos, warehouse gimp... Dwayne Dibley anyone? http://youtube.com/watch?v=jnNnzD149M0 Anyhow, I take it that's in reference to the Ariston Classico the Dan, the Prima is stainless steel. Is that one OK or are all the Ariston's bad? I think I'm...

    Shower pump...

If you've got a multi pattern shower head and want good flow and pressure on your open/foamy type setting (normally jet/standard/foamy) you'll want at least a 2 bar pump. The higher the pressure normally the noisier the pump. I've got the Salamander RSP 75 - 2.25 bar and I'm pleased with it...

    MegaFlow versus Range Tribune

Heh, there's nothing wrong with getting something for cheap as long as it's the same thing others are getting for more. There seems to be different brands favored by different people in terms of unvented's. It seems to be fairly even though so you probably can't go too far wrong - except the...

    MegaFlow versus Range Tribune

Watching this one with great interest, I'm comparing them at the moment too. Opinions on a Keston Spa? Seems to have the biggest coil for a 210 version (33kW) giving a 13min reheat time. Ariston Prima seems to be the next largest at 26.7kW. I've heard, very well built and Europe's...

    Loft Insulation advice needed

A layer of the thin mylar insulation would work fine under your floorboards. You can leave the existing insulation in place too. I think it's equivalent to about 250mm of other insulation by itself at around 10mm think. 100mm ceiling joists I think are the norm but like the previous poster...

Putting flooring in my loft for heavy storage?

The chipboard flooring is normally pretty strong but tends to come in 2 grades - loft flooring (not so stong) and "normal" flooring (full flooring strength). I think you have to bear in mind that the ceiling joists are there really to hang the ceiling from and while they can often support a...

    Stuart Turner Pump Question

The 2 bar will also be quieter - although those Stuart Turner pumps are pretty quiet anyway.
