    Radiator valve size interchangeability

I'm wanting to swap around the sides of my TRV valve and Lockshield, but apart from them both being 15mm connections, are valve bodies generally universal/the same dimensions? I.e. will I have to play around with tail protrusion and inlet pipe dimensions. The valves are Drayton eB valves and...

Understanding radiator valve pressure drop (dP)

Thanks @Johntheo5 . So as you increase the flow rate your resistance increases? I.e. if I wanted to achieve high flow rate, I'm going to have to put up with a higher pressure drop in my system? The query comes as I've just had a Heat Pump installed (running dT5), and the large radiators at the...

Understanding radiator valve pressure drop (dP)

I'm hoping someone can help me get my head around understanding radiator valve pressure drop. As an example, from the attached chart, a lower pressure drop results in a lower achievable flow rate. To my mind, a lower pressure drop (i.e. less resistance to flow) should give a higher flow rate...

    Radiator dT nowhere near 20deg

Thanks @Notch7. That seems reasonable that its harder to shed when the flow is closer to 20deg. The boiler flow and return are measuring a similar dT, but i'm now getting sceptical of my thermometer as its measuring 37deg at boiler exit, when the boiler thermometer says 45!

    Radiator dT nowhere near 20deg

Using a thermocouple to measure flow and return on radiators throughout the house and I can't get anything really above 4 or 5 degree dT! This is on a modern condensing boiler. Only thought is that we're running at 45deg flow temp and whether that's effecting anything. Not sure what's...

    Exposed fire place boarding

We're just going to leave it as a recess for storage, clean the bricks up best we can first. I've had the chimney swept and it's already capped at the top, so going to put some insulation up to limit any draft/things falling randomly but put a small vent in below just for minor ventilation.

    Exposed fire place boarding

Hi @Jake2021 we've effectively just undone that work funnily enough see the photo with what we started with and what I've now done. Cheers for the input!

Damp below window and adjacent walls

No damage to the soil pipe. The sloped window doesn't have guttering so it might be the case!

Damp below window and adjacent walls

Thanks @foxhole ! Not sure if it is the window frame just looking where the damp is, but the growth might be playing a part.

    Exposed fire place boarding

Unearthed the original fire place yesterday after it was completely bricked up. Looking for advice on how to board up completely - my current thoughts were: - chimney sweep flue - bung flu with balloon/insulation (cap chimney with vent in due course) - scrub remaining soot/salts - batten the...

Damp below window and adjacent walls

Hi all, I've finally taken the wall back to brick where we could see there was damp coming through. The damp was there when we bought the house and it looks like someone has previously put some 'special damp proof plaster on'... From the images, you can see it's pretty dry below the centre of...

Insulating bay window with adjacent piers

Thanks again @JohnD . We do have a stone sill outside. Our house is up in that there Manchester. My thought was to take the plaster off, batten, insulate between, vapour layer and board. It's just the reveal bit that's stumping me. On the attached photo, I was thinking to hack plaster off below...

Insulating bay window with adjacent piers

Hi @JohnD house is 1907, rest of the house is solid bricks (220mm) so I assume this is the same - its brick on the outside. Above the window there's a small roof before the rest of the house, though unsure for certain the makeup of it. @^woody^ by wide enough window board, do you mean the...

Insulating bay window with adjacent piers

Hi all (first post), I'm looking at insulating our ground floor bay window and have scoured pages to look for a similar arrangement to ours. The bay window has adjacent 'piers' (walls) at the end of the curve, I'm wondering whether I should/need to also strip the plaster back on these walls as...
